I have learned that finding this in my mailbox or on my doorstep means it's going to be a good day. Over the last several months about a dozen of my happiest days have involved one of these.

I've been extremely happy with all previous experiences with that label.

After learning that they did have a few of these in stock... so far today is no exception!

It was a pleasant surprise to find the button compass is now supplied...IIRC the first ones didn't.

I really like how ESEE actually takes the opportunity to go above and beyond to make this product a better tool for the end user. They give it a great ergonomic shape that's easy to keep a grip on under less than perfect conditions, a water-tight storage compartment for tinder and other small items, and they even give the user some useful information to read and go by at a time when they may be stressed out and not thinking too clearly.

I like it much better than the ones I've tried that are put out by some other companies who simply engrave a huge logo on the side of a slick aluminum tube while claiming that their "foremost goal" is to help you to survive in the wilderness. Personally, after having bad experiences with a couple of their ferro rods I suspect they are much more interested in making money...but then that is just my opinion. I am thinking this ESEE fire starter is going to be my favorite of all the "full-sized" "user" systems currently available on the market. If it works anywhere near as good as it looks I know it will be. I plan to get it out in the woods this weekend and try it out, and I can't wait.

.

Nice. I have one from them also. ...do they have more or did you hog them all to yourself?

Congrats on the new fire starter! I wanted to get one on my last order, but those pesky bills interfered! Enjoy!

Lisa said she only had a few. I only got the one for now...all I can afford at the moment. BUT, I'm sure I'll be getting a couple more.

I know the feeling bro...those pesky bills are interfering with my wants too, and why it took me this long to get the ESEE stuff I have been wanting for almost three years....

Congrats !
Excellent fire steel the ESEE fire kit is....I enjoy the ones I own.

Thanks Tony, definitely the best one I've had my hands on yet! :D

I love mine. Trying to think of the best way to have a kydex holder/loop made for going over the junglas sheath when that finally hits the trails.

Yeah, I love this thing! I'm still playing with it and contemplating the ways I'm going to carry it.

One in my rat pack, one on my RC5 or RC6 in the pouches (i ditched the tin to be able to fit them in, much worth it) one on a lanyard for neck wear, and one I made a braided 6 inch lanyard to find easier when it's tossed into my maxped.

How long does the firesteel usually last? Or should I say, how many strikes can you get off of it?

I have been meaning to pick up a firesteel. That looks like a great one to go with.
I love the storage/compass compartment.
Seeing as how I plan to pick up an ESEE 6 soon, I guess I should just go ahead and get the pack kit that comes with the firesteel.
Thanks for the pictures!

Oh, I'm sure I'll be getting at least one more probably two.

good job mist, now I need to get me one of those!!!!!

It took me a while to find one.

I've started more fires, and ignited more tinder piles in the last two years, doing studies and demonstrations, with a 3/8 ferro rod than most people who use them on a regular basis will ever start with one in their lifetime and it still has quite a few fires left in it.

I wish I could have afforded to get one....

I've been seeing what all I can get in it. So far I've got a piece of fatwood enough to use for tinder for a few fires under dry conditions (in which case I most likely wouldn't need to use it) and one fire for sure under wet conditions maybe two. I've also got a small capsule with some fish hood and split shot and I have room for fishing line.

I think there is room for some ibuprofen and pseudoephedrine with as much pollen as there is in the air here right not that could be a really good thing. The truck was just washed and waxed two days ago.

Congrats on your new ESEE Fire Starter! I love mine and it really works great, I'm sure you'll find the same true of yours Mistwalker.

I've got two; one old, and one new that came with my RAT Pack. The included compass is quality as far as I can tell, anyone know who makes them?

And Mistwalker, does your firekit have a screw holding the steel onto the capsule, or is it glued? Someone posted a day or two ago that the new kits are glued and use a standard ferro rod instead of the mischmetal..

This one is the harder type ferro rod, and it is epoxied in.

I keep mine stuffed with PJcotton balls. works great.

I'm thinking of making a couple of small diameter fire straws for this one.

Man.this thread isn't helping me with my fire kit Jones.I have one on back order with one of the suppliers here in Canada. The more ESEE stuff I get the more I'm hooked.

This should help the jones :)

Someone was asking about colors, these are all pretty true to life:

Mist! I love it! I need one :\ quick Q what year is your ranger? I love it! And I have a friend who came across a wrecked new '10 F150...I think would be a perfect donor for a Ranger...

Please give me the details on yours. Danger Ranger Red, is the color I want. Or black. lol. Or white...or silver...ok...or yellow. lol.

And diz why are they diff colors? Are they made by diff company? What happens when the rod dies? Can it be replaced?
