ESEE Junglas - Throwing

(i don't know where to post this, so i'll do it in general)

i hadn't seen a video of someone throwing there Junglas, so i thought i'd make one.
its incredibly well balanced, and easy to throw.

theirs 4 different views, so don't think its just the first close up one the whole time.

let me know what you think
:)

NOTE:
i am an ESEE fan, and would never take advantage of their warranty. if i DID break this knife it would go on my wall as a conversation piece.

this knife DID NOT BREAK. there is a video of some french guy bending it 90 degrees before his breaks. i think you all are wrong saying its going to harm the knife by throwing it, and i have yet to be proven wrong.
The problem comes over time. Each throw weakens the blade, kinda like if you jumped from a decent height over and over. Eventually it will break the knife when it is being thrown, but more likely it will just weaken the hell out of it so when you try to use it, it will not stand up to the same stress. Do you seriously own both a Junglas and a Busse and know so little about knives? Not trying to be funny, just curious as to what motivates a person to misuse such a great blade. Seems like your only reasoning is "because I can".

And he has made it clear that he will not abuse the warranty. It's not what most of us would do with our knives but its not harming anyone, so give him a break. I guess my reservation is that many of us would love to be able to afford a Jungles, let alone a Busse , and would treasure it.

A lot of people like ESEE knives, and see throwing something like that as wasteful and personally I would also say disrespectful to the knife itself.

Disrespectful to the knife? Give me a break. It's a piece of steel, not a person. I've owned three ESEE/RC knive and plan on getting another one. Obviously I like them. However, if this guy wants to buy one and have fun throwing it, so be it. It's probably more fun than battoning through a log simply because people say that's what you're supposed to do with those type knives.

Someone else said that "each throw weakens the steel". Well, if the steel can't take a little beating against some wood, then the knife must be pretty weak. Like someone else mentioned, I can hardly see the difference between "abusing" the knife by throwing it and "abusing" the knife by batoning it through a knot.

Ultimately I don't think the junglass is going to have a problem. Even if it did break he said he would "buy" another one. I'd rather see someone use their knife and enjoy it than see someone put it behind glass and never use it, afraid that it might get some dirt on it.

He asked what people think.

I offer no breaks to people who make videos depicting improper use of tools. The fact that someone can afford to do something does not mean I should condone what I believe to be irresponsible behavior when asked what I think about it.

I think a lot of people are reacting negatively to the OP's video more because of the skinny jeans than the actual abuse of the knife.

Gotta draw the line somewhere man.

have you ever thrown the ZKII?

if so, how do they throw? my CS kukri machete throws as well as most of my hawks, but i'd imagine a thicker kuk would be awesome

I have not thrown the KZII. There is an awful lot of handle weight in the KZII, and the narrow neck is less meaty than you would think.

I may have to, but have not yet.

He said "let me know what you think." People let him know what they thought. If he didn't want comments, he shouldn't post on internet forums but should abuse his knives in private.

i appreciate BOTH positive and negative feedback
..but i also have a right to defend my side, which is;
it's my knife and should be able to have fun with it in whatever way i so choose.

so i'd still like to know peoples honest opinions towards the video,
just expect me to retort with my opinion as well.

I don't want to resort to name-calling, but this is one of the dumbest things I've seen since I started using the internet. And the internet is a pretty big place....

a guy having fun with his knife, then battening through knotted wood to show that he did not ruin the structural integrity
is one of the dumbest videos you have seen on the internet?

It's not an immediate thing. A junglas can take a lot of abuse, you're right. As for ruining structural integrity, you're wrong. Since it IS one of those well built knives, it will last a lot longer, but you are shortening the lifespan. Kudos. No one really cares what you do with your knife...hell I might baton mine through knots all day if it's the only thing I have on me. We're just giving our opinions of course. A lot of people treat knives, cars, guns, what have you with respect. Personally, I have been taught that if you respect a tool, it won't let you down. Maybe that's just superstition, but in a literal sense it means that if you use the tool only as it was designed, it will hold up much longer. Throwing knives is pretty fun I admit, but unfortunately although the Junglas apparently throws pretty well, the steel/hardness/design/what have you were not designed for throwing and it will put a lot of stress on key areas that will wear down the life of the knife. The weaker the knife, the faster it breaks. Maybe that says something about the strength of the Junglas.

If you wanna throw it, throw it. But you're not going to convince anyone that you're not ruining the blade. Might as well be banging on it with a hammer. If you break it, feel free to report back. If in a few months time, it still holds up, report back anyway? Maybe the Junglas can take it. But remember, you get what you asked for, which was our opinion. Most of it will be negative except for "let the guy do what he wants", although no one is actually telling you not to do it. We're just saying it's abuse. No hard feelings. Enjoy screwing up your blade.

Btw, what DO you do with old cars when you buy a new one?

i've given cars/vans to my family members that need them at the time. i had a probe gt turbo that i bought a boost controller for, and cranked it up from 9 to 15psi just to see what would happen. i blew up the engine, but had fun with how quick she was off the line a fiew times. imho life is to short to have "safe queens" or to be too cautious.

money comes and goes.
if your fortunate enough like myself to have a good sturdy job, you can blow money away. should i be saving? ..probably, but thats not "me"
for now, i enjoy doing what i want whenever i want (to a certain extent)

Although I dont like to see a good knife wasted, it is your money and I hope your having fun doing it. I think safe queens are just as wasteful unless they get sold for a profit, but at least we have learned something from your test. It is a testament to Rowens heat treatment. I have an ESEE 6 which is the Junglas's baby bro, and I am pleased to know just how much it could take. Thanks.

How old are you? I was like that not long ago. Sign of getting older lol. I don't have any safe queens myself. I have no more knives than what I need for my hobbies. I'm not very cautious with them, just use them for what they're intended for.

As for the car, that's more an issue of lack of knowledge/appreciation for your belongings. Lots of people here in the south like that, including my family.

1:49, basically the same thing as a Junglas. Everything breaks if you use it hard. This poor guy had just bought his, and it was even being used as intended. I suppose that could be argued in favor of the negative or positive.

Looks like you are getting the attention you are seeking. Ultimately, yes they are your knives and you can do whatever tou like with them. It's the "Look At Me!!!" factor that has some people a bit whipped up. Enjoy your knives however you see fit.

Steel vs. Wood, steel should win everytime, unless it is faulty steel.
