I'm putting my ESEE 3 away for a while and below is a short video of how I prep the uncoated 1095 for storage. It works.

Very nice mateI've been carrying this exclusively as my EDC for the last year. Helped finish my buddy's basement during that time, a few camping trips, and put it through some pretty heavy use, black oxide finish held up really nicely, the thing is an absolute tank. The wood scales got a little beat up and worn, though. I really like the extra length of these scales, they fit my hand significantly better than the stock Micarta. I get tons of little compliments by people when they ask to borrow a knife. I guess it catches them off guard

Sounds like your ideal carry on the tractor.. Let me know how it goes as time goes on..jmh33 I'm wearing my izula like a shoulder bag with some Paracord. The handle sits just at belt height. I can grab it and pull it out left handed easier then up on my belt. It's very convenient and easily moved out of the way. It wasn't comfortable with just a tshirt but with my work shirt that has a collar it's not noticable. Much better than around the neck hanging in front. I'll give it a go for a few days and see how it works out.View attachment 2104935
Yes mate, my 3 is back in the drawer for a while. I'm working on a good carry option for my 4HM. The kydex sheath I have for it has great retention but the strong retention can be annoying with bloody hands holding a rabbit in one hand and sometimes struggling to get it out of the sheath. I haven't used the 4HM in over a year I recon.Sounds like your ideal carry on the tractor.. Let me know how it goes as time goes on..
Hang up the 3 for a while did ya?? Your gonna miss it!!!

I'll etch the logos, strip the coating, smooth and dye the handles and then use the living daylights out of itCant pass up a bargain Dan!!Looks Good..
Whats your plan??
John

No. I'm happy with the factory edge. My hand sharpening on stones over time will convex it slightly, but that will come with time. Now thats a Man with a plan..
Pics when done!! Will you mess with the edge??
John
Some time back you asked me how I like the handle on my HM3..No. I'm happy with the factory edge. My hand sharpening on stones over time will convex it slightly, but that will come with time.

Some time back you asked me how I like the handle on my HM3..
How do you like yours on the 4?? How does it compare to you on the other 4??
John
Dan.. After you retire.. You should write reviews!!I haven't used the HM that I already have very much at all just cutting veggies and meat on a few camping trips about a year ago. My wife had no complaints using it.
It's longer and a bit better to handle with gloves, winter is coming so it's a good reason to use it now. I do prefer the old flat scales on my orange scaled 4 that is in the previous post but I don't not like this broom style handle. It is just different. It's not a case of needing a different scale style, it's just a case of wanting to use it. You know yourself why not try everything
I didn't like it on my ESEE 6HM, I sold it before I got it too dirty, it felt like it wanted to roll in my hand when wet with blood skinning, gutting etc. I guess ask me again in a few months after I've cut up some "critters" as you guys call them.
You never know I might end up with a 3HM eventually...
