esee5 review chat!!!

Yeah...I got the black...it's on the way. I figured I'd never look at black and wish it was green but I might get sick of the green and wish I'd got black. I have a green Izula and it's cool but I think I'll be happy with black. I have a desert tan 4 and that's a nice color too.

good to hear :D  you will really like the 5. it makes all your other knives feel really lightweight :D

Yeah. I had the 6 but it was just not for me. I've got two Collins Legitimus Machetes and have lost count of the axes...so I really didn't need an "out in the woods camp knife" like what the 6 is. Sold it to a buddy who was fixing to get a Cold Steel cause he needed a big knife. I sold him my 6...which he loves...got my 4 with the proceeds...and then he was so stoked with ESEE, he asked my advice and I suggest a HEST for him. So between the two of us, once my 5 gets here next week, we'll have all of 'em except the Junglas.

So yeah, the 5 will be just the ticket for what I want. Between a Spyderco or the Izula for the fine work, the 5 for the ugly stuff, and the Collins and/or camp ax for the chopping, I'm set. I am not a backpacker...day hiker...mushroom hunter, arrowhead hunter, and when I am out west, I look for meteorites and petroglyphs in the desert. Haven't found a meteorite but I have found a couple of sorta basic petroglyphs. I like to have a good knife with me wherever I go plus the ever handy 642.

So yep, I recovered from the understandable mistake of "bigger is better" with the 6 quite gracefully and am looking forward to my new ESEE-5.

PS. Over on the Spyderco forum I'll probably tell how I looking forward to my new Endura FFG and how happy I am with the Military I got two weeks ago. It's been a good knife summer for me:D

Cool, black 5. Combo or plain edge?

Plain edge. I am backing off from serrations on most knives these days. All 4 of my ESEEs (and all the new Spydercos I'm getting) are plain edge.

ESEE serrations are the only serrations I’ll consider. They’re the shiz (as I mentioned in the review of the 5). Hard to beat a plain edge knife though.

Got the 5. Love the 5. Probably actually exceeds my expectations, as have all ESEE knives so far. Just the right size. Great blade shape. Wow, am I pleased with this. And I love the black. That much green real estate belongs on a golf course.

Now that I have almost all the plain edges, I have to decide on going orange? Or serrated? ...on the next pass through their catalog...Orange and serrated 3 maybe?

Don't have to worry about the lock failing this knife on the spine whack test do I:D

glad to hear you like it! one thing i noticed with the 5 is it makes all your other knives feel too lightweight :D ;)

Bumpage. It appears it won't take the final winner/owner long to remove what coating is left from the 5 if they so choose. :D

yeah that esee5 has gotten its workout whilst travel among members.
glad to see it so well loved/used.
and it would be fun to see just how long that coating does last.
whoever ends up with it shld continue to supply pix

I got it used it and sent it on its merry way.

Great Knife having been able to use it changed my mind about it.
