Those three should go in the database, no questions asked.
Just for reference's sake, here's a closer view of the edge that Jerry Fisk was putting on the knife.
Two folks used it in the cutting contest, and it is still screaming sharp.

This weekend was definitely one of the best times I have ever had. Even the missus had herself a hell of a good time.

We got there and were all set to start taking pics, but when we pulled out the camera we found out that someone *cough the missus cough* had taken the SD card out of the camera. So no pics from me unfortunately. Good news is that we had several people all getting all kinds of shots and video, so there will be plenty available to see once everyone gets everything squared away and uploaded.

Saturday saw one of the finest meals ever had outdoors, Kaywater made some awesome fried taters, Pointy whipped up so ridiculous hot taters with sausage, I whipped up some veggie stuff that was pretty good, and the beef was insane, both in flavor and quantity. Overall definitely worth attending if you get the chance.

Ok: First off, this weekend was amazing. I had too much fun and meat for any one soul to endure. I might have a permagrin. So let's start off with the copious amount of pics!

Fisk at the grinder, believe me, this man is an artist (note the crowd)

Sharpening lessons from the Fisk!!! all eyes and ears were glued.

I think Moose is trying to raise the roof of Ethan's shop or something?

----Before I get into the contest pics, know that safety was paramount. Everyone competing was using a lanyard on their blade, and that hands not required on the knives for the cut were kept in pockets. Folks, learn this stuff, use it. We had no medical problems past a few cases of "noodle arm" for these reasons and that speaks for itself. Be safe when using these things.

The Mouse chop rig from the contests: portable mouse hole on 2x10, 60" tape measure showing past hole, a few inches of string on either side of a 3/8th's x 3" or so dowel. tough cut!
6254985950_3edeed30b8_z.jpg

Murphnuge at the mouse chop; this cut is waaaay harder than you think!
6254982040_9234193615_z.jpg

Biscuit at the Mouse Hole. Notice how flat the blade is at the point of contact. From what I gathered, this is key.

that's all for this post, will post up more very soon.

ah man, I wanted to see some Moose FAIL pics. I'm a little disappointed... haha

Thanks for all the photos and vids, you're a great mod.

World class fun. We just got back and will have to upload some pics. Great seeing old friends and making new ones.

damn.

Moose's ONLY fail of the weekend was missed by all cameras -- Friday night around 2 AM we all staggered back to our bedrolls.
5 minutes after I crawled in my tent several of us heard a strange "shwoop -- THUD" -- Moose had hung his hammock inside the gazebo and his hanger straps slid down until he hit the floor. Saturday morning when asked about it he insisted it was a gentle landing, I think he just had enough anaesthetic in his system that he didn't feel it. :)

the contests were great - I need to invest in a LOT of rope and build me a stand so i can practice for the future, where no one else can see me fail - miserably & repeatedly - at severing a 1" rope.

... On to the Bird House. This was crazy tough. Essentially a birdhouse-shaped plank with a few holes for stabbin' thru. they were shaped [ I O - ], so you had to twist the knife, have a shaaaarrrp point, and real good aim. The real hard part was you had to stay 28" or so away from it and start with your elbow touching your ribs.

Time to wage war on bottles of water.

The Mighty Biscuit rocks the house. This is another tough cut.

Our war against hydration continues! Next up was slicing a water bottle in half-- you had to cut the cap and the bottle into two pieces, I glanced off the cap and bisected the bottle with what I thought was a good slice. Another tough cut (detecting a theme yet?)

Here's Ark getting ready to show that pesky fluid vessel who's boss: Tradewater and the Honorable Mr. Fisk Preside:

Derek wasted his bottle, but I can't remember if he cut the cap or not. Either way, it looks cool.

Guyon throwing the smack down. I think I heard somewhere that biscuits and water are enemies :) But, seriously, he knows a thing or two about chopping.

Up next was what I believe is called "The Girl Scout Chop" a piece of 2'x6' that you had to chop as many end-to-end pieces off of as possible time limit was 30 seconds.

One of the real problems here was to keep the wood on the chopping block, here's murph Experiencing just that.

Wow looks like you guys had a great time!!! The highlight of my weekend was putting some new micarta handles on my 11. *sigh*

I think what Pointy is saying, very nicely, is that I stunk at these two events. :D
Tell you what, I was durn impressed that James picked up a knife he'd never really held and proceeded to cut rope, shear a dowel in two, and slice a water bottle from cap to bottom.

Next, we're on to the 2'x4' chop. This thing was rough cut and harder than a coffin nail. Also, this was the only stage of the contests that allowed other knives. anything under 10" and not a chainsaw was allowed.

Murph making sawdust: why, yes that is a Machax in action.

Up last was Appleball. you could either try and slice it in half midair. or catch it on your point. I didn't get many pics of this, I must've been distracted by flying fruit. This was, again done under strict supervision with multiple safety measures in place. Don't try this one at home. Ok, maybe if you work at an applesauce plant.

Derek going for a slice.

I didn't get any pics of the rope cut, which happened first. But you should be able to see me fail at it in moosez's videos.

Here's a little of the swag-giving: I somehow managed to score a sweet Adventure medical kits pocket survival kit plus from the good folks at kniferights. Thanks Everyone for a real hoot of a contest. (Even if I did fumble through it like a one-armed football player :)

The boss and moose award the winner (so sorry, but I just can't remember his name. I can, however say that both his beard and knife skills are quite mighty.

Good stuff, Moose. Thanks for the videos. The Fisk Edge looks awesome.

Looks like everyone had a good time and the BeckerHeads have made Barlow proud this week.

Someday, I will make it to a Gathering, and there will be much rejoicing.

the winner of the competition was James Gibson - an ABA journeyman knifemaker IIRC. Seemed like a pretty nice guy, too, from the little I got to talk to him. He won a BK10 w/all the bells & whistles.

Thanks for the info, guys. One day, I'll grow a memory and be a real boy. :)

after that, it was back up to the Beckerdome.

Here's a shot of the shooting range down by the outhouse. Lots of holes there with different purposes. Yes, even the bathroom is scenic. :D

That's all for now. I might post more after I sort through the blurred shots and such.
Hope everyone has as much fun looking as I did doing.
