Ethan's Fall Gathering, Moosezview

Cool!! Can't wait to get my BeckerHead number (Put in a request for it on the sign up thread) looks like a great time. Yes moose, Jerry Fisk does have a nice rear.

Looks like it was probably a weekend to remember for sure!! I wish I could have been there. :(

I think what Pointy is saying, very nicely, is that I stunk at these two events. :D
Tell you what, I was durn impressed that James picked up a knife he'd never really held and proceeded to cut rope, shear a dowel in two, and slice a water bottle from cap to bottom.

Just saw this. I wasn't meaning it like that. I was just trying to keep the attention away from my own, nearly last-place marks at the contest :D :D. For the record, you chop like a beast! I could've swore you looked at that 2x4 funny and it broke itself.

James had clearly played that game before, though. He needs to write a book on cutting contests so I can buy it. :) That cap on the water bottle was a pesky critter indeed.

That sharpening video with Fisk needs to be a sticky I tell ya. I've been lazy of late and have been sharpening with a belt sander and strop, but I just followed that video and my bk5 is sharper than ever! I added my strop after his stone techniques and I got a mirror edge and it bites hard. I even tried his tip of dropping paper and trying to slice it and , well the pic shows the result...
(PS not trying to hijack just saying that even hundreds of miles away Jerry's lessons are sinking in)

Dude, I'm pretty sure that when Fisk comes to town, all of the knives get sharper just to keep from spiting him :)

He said a good one in Ethan's shop Saturday. IIRC, he said "The sharpest knife I ever made was so sharp that its shadow cut the leg off the table before I could get it in the box." And, for the record, I believe him.

It was a good time, & the games were a ton of fun.
I wish I could've practiced & done better... next time I'll know what to expect!

Pointy - you da man - thanks for going 1st & letting me learn from watching you. You jacked that wooden mouse up!

luuuucccckkyyyyyy looks like a good time guys maybe in the next couple years more of us could have the privilege of attending

I just want to say that I had a great time at the gathering. I can only hope that I have met some new friends that I will have for a long time. I have some pics and will have them posted soon. When I got there only knowing Ethan and Sam, I was a little worried that I would not be welcomed into what really is a tight knit group of friends but I could not have been more wrong. You all are just a messed up as me and I loved it. Moose, you did a great job getting all this set up and I will be glad to help you if you need it for the spring gathering. My only issue is that no one told me that I should not have dissed my first ever Becker (BK2) by throwing it in my pack when a sweet hand worked personal BK5 was given to me. Thanks again! Well, she bit me when I got home and went to pull her out of my pack. Where was Doc when I needed him... Hey it only took 6 stitches to get me back to normal! I guess I should get a pic of that too.... I need to get some ideas on a better sheath for it.

LMAO!!! Lesson learned as they say.

Thanks for bringing the supressed weapons, ammo, and good spirit.

It was a blast, good to see you posting, and yeah, you'll wanna make a post and show us your stitches. :D

Is that REALLY Arkanian with a BK5?? How did you like it, man? Change your mind yet?

I think AIG did. Look for it in the video series if you need to recreate that testicle-withdrawing moment.

Did anyone get a good pic or video of him driving the BK5 into the concrete???

My camcorder died right before that challenge. I was sitting and spectating at that time.

Pointy got a pic of it, or maybe it was SF Sam, Doc, I think got some rollin' footage of it.

There is documentation somewhere, that a BK5 was driven point first, straight into concrete at an accelerating rate, with no damage other than scuffed paint. Ethan and Fisk eyballed it to say it went about 3/16-1/4" in. Scuffed the paint is all it did.

Geek told me later up on the hill, that doing stuff like that was easier when it wasn't your knife. Then I told him that everyone got to keep their BK5. He looked at me then and said,

"If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have done that.":D

Doc said he got it (and the crowd groans), and he got some close up footage of the undamaged tip later up on the hill.

Dang, and I thought *I* had a good weekend. Not contest. (Literally, there were no contests.)

there was more than one person doing that, and i think i have some of that on video, still in the camera... it'll be a few days with with just getting home after a 17 hour drive and now having to goto work :)

soon, though, i promise. took a lot of pictures. other angles. other views.
