Ethan's Fall Gathering, Moosezview

yup - both Ark & Geek stabbed the 'crete.
Shaw - was good meeting you, had a blast.
Trade - picnic & mud bog? that sounds fun.

FYI, James Gibson is a local primitive skills instructor, martial artist, flint knapper and blade-smith (and fellow supporter of the ABS Youth Hammer-In).
You can reach James at knobcreekforge@hotmail.com.

I'm down at Ethan's from time to time and Moose did a lot of work making sure that things were ready for folks to be safe and comfortable.
Good group of folks and I'm sorry I had to head out early Saturday.

You got it bro.
You give me something sharp & I'll stab somebody... I mean something  with it ASAP.

I want geek on my team when they do the snake stab contest at the annual "Barlow Bottoms Cut it and Cook it" picnic & mud bog.

I just watched the Jerry Videos, and they're great.
That's not just 'a grinder' in Ethan's shop, that's a KMG and it looks like it might have had a variable speed controller on it too.
A sweet machine.

I like the way Jerry breaks the shoulder of the edge bevel and gently convexes that section before honing the edge on the stone. Gets some meat outta the way.

yup, it's a sweet machine to use, with a nice personality as well :)

Just remember this ....No matter how good the steel and no matter how good a job Tooj does on the heat treat eventually, the concrete wins....There is a lot more of it lol.....I must say tho I was really impressed....Just another reason to love that 1095CroVan....Sweet stuff by gum, by golly !!!!!......

I cannot stress how much fun I had the entire time. My girlfriend and I weren't made to feel as guests, but more like family or old friends.

I was talking about the gathering - and especially the food - to a coworker this morning and guess who he saw on TV today cooking up some chicken and talking about Julia Childs?

My guess would be Ark.

He's such an attention whore, its not even funny.

:D

Good lord, every time that tip hit concrete, we all cringed like we were watching some guy get kicked in the groin!

What? My blade didn't touch concrete once, ThePointyEnd stabbed ground as well as Jay.

** coff coff ** I don't have a clue what you're talking about ** coff coff**

Yeah, I was sooo nervous doing that cut, and that + timed event + never practicing manipulating dead tree with a knifepoint before=one heck of an unintentional test of blade, alloy, heat treat, and the strength of my stomach. I'm pretty sure I need to go confess my sins somewhere :) But, lesson learned: I will practice this skill soon and be better prepared in the future.

The impressive part to me is that, after the single worst thing I've ever done to a knife (accidental or not i still feel bad about it) and the rest of the contest, that I was able to take it back up on the hill and help cook dinner and could've even shaved without so much as stropping it. No damage at all. As Ethan mentioned, 1095CV is sweeet.
