Ethan's Gathering May 16,17,18 Signup

Sloans sells Beckers, and it must be visited to be believed. 30 minutes away and on the way to Ethans.

I have been to Sloan's twice, and I somehow missed the Beckers. :o I may have been distracted by their excellent selection of fishing tackle and obscure hot-sauces... Thanks for the reminder :)

Dont forget the chicken feed and turkey bells.....

Indeed!

Make sure you bring your pipe(s)!

I have no pipes. I do have a bag of smoke and a box of tubes and a maker thingamabob and a willingness to learn, though.

(that's gonna sound exceedingly bizarre to anyone who's not familiar with the nomenclature... and to some who am. Are. Whatever... Oh, well.)

Ethan once told me that theres nothing you cant buy at sloans. So, i put it to the test by randomly choosing a handfull of things that I knew they wouldnt have and went in and asked for them. Damned if they didnt have every one of them. Its amazing how much shits in that place.

Right on

I just read mm's thread including making bannock... anyone else have any plans for cool skills and techniques they'd like to teach/share?

I presume this will be pretty casual, as was the Fall Gathering. But good gravy, I learned a ton of cool stuff just from hanging around with y'all... hoping to encourage more of that :)

I'm pretty sure my girlfriend and I are going to just wander around learning from everybody. I don't know that I know anything you guys don't know besides maybe abstract algebra.

I have some items to trade or sell that I am going to bring. Look forward to meeting everyone and learn what I can from you all. After the meet I am going into the forest camping. I am bringing my small dual sport mc with me and am going to ride some of the roads. Everything will be fresh in my mind and I will have my first Becker. You'll know it's me cause I'll have a motorcycle on the back of my truck! Ha

I don't want a pickle - I just wanna ride my motor-sickle

maybe you can give me a refresher on abelian groups and we can debate the relationship of algebraic theory to object-oriented programming and orthogonal instruction sets.

or nevermind, 'cause I won't be there. :-(

People get distracted at Sloan's by all manner of things.
Guns, knives, fishing tackle, ammo, udder balm, turkey bells, the buxom country girls who run the grocery registers...
Hell, I spent twenty minutes one time looking at just O-rings.

OK - I'm in! :D

I literally wasn't given a choice.

Atta boy, glad you finally realized that there was two ways that you were gonna go, the easy way, or the hard way. You have chosen wisely.

Thanks! I've been called a wise-ass before, but never just wise. I'm all for doing things the easy way though.

Just got back from GP Knives. Got a new BK-15 and a little diamond sharpener to go in the sheath pocket. It all looks good! I also picked up a sling pack to carry my stuff when I am on my bike or hiking with my dogs. I'll bring the old one and see if any one wants it. Also bringing to sell/trade/give away a few other items: para cord, whole bag of webbing buckles, 22 ammo, inverter. Any thing else I can dig up that any of my new friends might have a interest in. Then someone can sharpen the Becker for me and teach me something!

we can teach you how to slack belt sharpen a knife that might ruin you for freehand sharpening for the rest of your life!

What types of belts does Ethan usually have laying around? I've been playing with 15-micron and 9-micron polishing belts lately for sharpening... I could bring one of each along for people to try out.

He's got the usual suspects. He uses the "free" polishing belts like I do.
