Ethan's Spring Gathering May 18,19,20

I always pack my own roll of paper & an e-tool stout enough to shear most padlocks. :D

Hey folks,

Two questions:
What are the temps like this time of year? We've not been so far south this late in the spring.
Also, what's bug situation like? Mosquitoes, etc. It's high season up here in Canada and I just want to know how much DEET we may need to bring!

Hot. Humid.

Mosquitos will carry you away if you get caught out in it.

:D

Some bug spray and some sun block. It will be in the mid to upper 80's at high noon and lows into the mid 60's at night.

Just got back from Beckerhead Camp and the auxilliary sites (sounds impressive huh?) and things are coming right along....We are burning about fifteen gallons of diesel a day in the dozer and tractor and we are about done.....Hope to get a touch of rain over the weekend to settle it all down........Roads needed some freshening up anyway but I am real happy about the new spaces......The old Cat D4D is running like the lovely princess she is, purring with power.....Pushin' dirt and haulin' logs.....My friend Gilbert is a freaking artist with the old girl.....Maybe this fall I can get our friend Rick to give a felling and chain saw class....He drops trees with the delicacy of a plastic surgeon working on a new girlfriend......

Gotta go......Nine days....

All best...

A couple quick questions:
1. Are we going to be able to make fire by our tent / swing for food prep or is it going to be one community fire that we cook on.
2. Any way we could do a trap making class.

1. Depends on where you tent is, but yes, as long as its maintained and never left unattended. You can use the community fire as well

2. What kind of traps? Improvised or manufactured?

Oh, and do not throw trash in the cook fire/community.

I got the time off work. Looks like the wife and I (and the dogs) are coming down Friday. Can't wait. Looking forward to meeting all of you!

I’m really not sure what the difference is. That’s one area that could use some improvement. I would say if there is a ground floor starting level for either it would be good to know. I somewhat know the figure four deadfall (payute I think it’s called). There was another one with a 7 in the name. I’m guessing those are improvised and something like a bear trap would be manufactured?

Improvised

Both have the same principle, but actual implementation is different.

We don't mind getting your started, just remind me when we are there, and we will go over the basics of snaring, and show you some of the fastest, and best improvised traps.

Like how to drop a Moose with a hammock snare.

Add 1/5th of Jack Daniels, with 0 light.

Done deal, you'll find him sleeping on the ground in the morning.

Snicker....Im still thinking of the opposite...see how high I can raise hammocks up the trees at night....
