Even MORE guys in NYC getting their knives confiscated, arrested, etc...

Could a knife be made that could be opened one handed but not be opened by flicking the knife by either the handle or the blade? It seems like it would be possible. Just require a little pressure on the handle and blade for it to open. I'm not saying I could do it, but I think someone could.

There is a CRKT folder that locks closed -- it requires you to push down on the thumbstud to unlock. It would be difficult if not impossible to flick this thing. I have one, and it's okay, and for awhile I thought it might be my NYC EDC.

But an SAK cuts better :)

Sliplock I have always wondered how that knife would be viewed. If you consider a real gravity knife you push a buttom to release it.....not sure how this would be viewed....

hi there, hr218 actually. and nypd does indeed treat officers from other states very well.

+1
The boys in blue do take care of their own, as they should. What really pisses me off about HR218, is that in typical NYC fashion, the powers the be once again have have simply declared that their local rules and ordnances can somehow supersede a nationally upheld federal law granting CCW rights to all officers both active and retired.

Just like they have conveniently chosen to ignore the "safe passage provision" of the F.O.P.A, when it suites their needs, they have also chosen to start making it more and more difficult for retired cops to continue to be able to take advantage of HR218 as is their right according to federal law.

Unfortunately case law in New York is on the side of the police. I personally don't agree with it but since there isn't much of a backlash this sort of thing will continue. I personally wouldn't live there because of it and I think that an expensive lawsuit or two might change their minds but I don't see that happening either. It seems that NYC has decided what it wants to ban and that's the way it is. Would be kind of funny though if everyone started clipping everything to their pockets. I wonder if you would have a case for unreasonable search if the NYPD stopped you for having a Space Pen clipped to your pants.

Gadgetman7 I understand they idea of carrying an item that clips to your pocket and looks like a knife and then surpriseing the officer when you pull it out and show him that it is a pen. It may be funny in a few cases, but in NYC we all still remember the guy who was thought to have a gun and when the plain cloths officers stopped him, he took out his wallet to show his ID and was shot 42 times ......I still to follwoing the law and keep it in my pocket....
