Ever disappointed in a knife?

Im sure its an alright knife but it doesn't get any carry time only because of the where its made.

Whats wrong with Taiwan? Great country and they produce a great product. Have you been there? Its a beautiful place, they take pride in their work, and considering how small they are they are almost insanely defiant in the face of communist Chinese aggression.

The only knife i've been disappointed with recently is the Boker Plus Fiskmuk in stag. It has enough problems that I'll need to make a list...

1. Uneven edge bevel, not sharp at all.
2. The rounded tang that the lockback rides on is ground with flat spots, so it opens in jerks, instead of smoothly.
3. The liners and stag slabs aren't even close to lining up.
4. There are gaps between the stag and liners
5. Blade play.
6. Worst of all, the blade is allowed to touch the steel back spacer, resulting in a big flat spot on the edge.

If it's a good knife and you already bought it, why should it matter where it was made?

My BM 53 didn't really meet my expectations. I don't think it is a bad knife nor was it an issue of the handle style. It just didn't do it for me.

My Kershaw Burst spring broke after less than a week i think, i really do not want to bother with sending it back... so bored with returning bad stuff fffffff

My bucks came with really rough edges, i have still only barely got them to work smoothly: 110 112 Paradigm, not really an issue for me since i have plenty other knives i can rely on if need be

I have also had some rather serious issues with getting a good edge onto the esee-3, spydie military, fällkn. U2, bark river highlander (fortunately, that one seems to finally have given in to my diamond caressing)

cant seem to think of any other problems exceeept maybe that my CS boar hunter was ground slightly too much, along with some other large knife i can not remember... actually i think it was my esee-3

Not very related, but i seem to remember making the lock on my old Endura fail somehow
and the time my new ffg endura ripped its tang off

The second Busse I ever bought (an original Badger Attack in 1995) was very inferior in grind quality and finish to my first, a BB SHII. I was very disappointed. I called Busse Combat and Jerry Busse answered he phone, told me to send it back and they would make it right. After receiving the knife, he called me, said that he agreed with my assessment and that it should never have left his shop, gave me my choice of replacement knife or money back. I chose another knife, which was perfect when it arrived.

A Busse being my greatest knife disappointment seems funny now that I own over 100 of his knives.

I don't really complain if a knife comes from china or anything. I didn't include them much but I understand that the knives are hand sharpened at factories so I can't hate a company for some mistakes. My delica was useable with the edge it came with but the edge wouldve rolled very easily if I kept it as is.

i could go on and on here:
1.crkt's new big serrations recently all "folded over" on me while sawing green bamboo with it. one of the carson m16 folders. they replaced it. and said that that was not a good use for the knife. i sold the replacement.
2.i once bought a gil hibben( i know...) folder. 1/2" of tip broke off while processing a TURKEY. didnt bother sending that one back.
3.bought a walter brend folder from boker. about 200$ folder for the best man in my wedding. inlays fell out inside of 5 minutes and the fit of wood to the steel was worse than many ive seen from pakistan. they replaced it with another. again- bad wood fit and shield inlay fell out. they sent me some new inlays and said to glue them in. disappointed.
4. i havent done anything about this one yet. not till after deer season.... my first season with a new cold steel pendleton custom san mai. second most expensive knife ive ever bought.... have processed 4 deer with it. no other use. edge has a "wave" in it. a series of bends. its still sharp, but edge is not flat anymore. i assume i did this prying joints apart, but it never happened with the cold steel pendleton folder or regular pendleton i have been using for years previous. i thought spending the big $ for the san mai was gonna be my last deer knife purchase. but like i said, i havent contacted them yet.....
5. another boker... a small folder. forget what they call it. its about the size of a credit card. the thumb notch opener things was plastic and broke off almost immediately. i liked it better with the big hole it left.
6. years ago... one of my first "expensive" knife purchases... a Katz fixed blade hunter. great blade. the pommel was held on by one little screwhead. it would twist from side to side. i was tapping a little tent stake into dirt with it when it broke completely off. they sent me a new one that i was scared to use so i sold immediately(new pommel would already twist side to side)they informed me i should use knife as intended, which i assume was just to cut meat. a big steak knife.

i could as easily make a list of companies that have done right by their blades, and hope to add the pendleton to that list...

My orange Delica that I got this summer had uneven edges. Everything else was OK though.
Have you ever bought a knife and was disappointed in what you recieved. This mostly pertains to quality control such as poor edges, handle or pivot to tight, and other slip ups. I'll start with my experience.
I bought an orange delica 4 ffg last month on amazon and was pretty shocked with how it came. The edge was very uneven, hand was tight and was scratching the blade everytime I would open it. For that kind of price and spyderco's famous sharp and good factory edges I was regretting my purchase somewhat. My tenacious and even my spyderco bug had good edges and were nice and sharp. I know I probably got a lemon (even though I've seen another person's orange delica came with a bad edge) But now it's good after having to reprofile it. Let's hear your experiences!

I have to say it, I have not had a bad knife that came from a Taiwanese factory. The F/F across a few brands has been impressive.
That statement is pretty ignorant. Unfortunate many individuals have a mindset similar to yours.

I bought a Ontario Rat 1 that after about 3 weeks developed blade wobble/play. Not a biggie it only cost 30 bucks but dissappointing considering the reviews.

I will come to Plastid's defense and say I also hold a negative conotation to anything made in taiwan, especially steel. I'm sure my opinions are outdated, but I've had some very bad experiences with [cheap] Taiwanese steel in the past. Some people just can't move past their own experiences. Speak to any Vietnam vet that had their M14 taken away and an M16 given to them, they are unlikely to praise the AR-15 even though it's a fine platform [now].

I haven't bought any Taiwanese knives recently so I can't speak to their current quality.

I once ordered a Columbia River Hisshou and when it came in I was not impressed at all. It had a mirror polished blade that looked like chrome plate, the habaki was plastic and it was not particularily sharp. I returned it for a refund. The second disapointment I can recall was a custom damascus and coral folder by Butch Ball. I've not see any other work by this gentleman but this one was certainly not very impressive. It was also returned.

Yea I saw someone else in another post somewhere their orange delica had uneven edges as well. I also saw someones review of their orange endura came with bad edges as well! Not counting people that don't take notice or care to mention. But I'm sure they were just lemons unfortunately.

Actually... Not really. Even the couple of Frost slip joints were generally okay, but I went into those purchases knowing exactly what I was buying. I wanted to really look a couple of them over.

I have made poor choices, but the knives were generally okay, even the CRKT Razels made in China. Had a Queen fixed blade that barely had an edge if you want to call it that. I spent a fair amount of time re-profiling that one and it is a pretty good knife now.

Never really had a problem with a blade made in Taiwan.
