Ever disappointed in a knife?

I bought a CRKT Ichi off fleabay. It was way smaller than I thought. I could barely hang onto that little sucker

The CRKT Folts minimalist, and SOG Flash 1 are the two knives i am really disappointed in..

I really like the way the CRKT Folts minimalist fits in the hand. It has a great sheath and a Great design. The problem is with the steel. It IS AWFUL. I believe CRKT calls it 3cr13mov. I can get a razor sharp edge, but it will dull so soon. I can not use the dang thing because it dulls so quickly. It is ashamed since it is such a great design. I know there is the actual custom knife that i wish to pick up some day. i Would have paid an extra $10 dollars to get AUS8 steel in the knife, witch is not that much better. Oh well it was just a $20 knife, so it could be worse.

On to the SOGs
When I bought the flash 1, I liked it very much. After carrying it for a few months and using it every single day, i realized this was not the knife for me. It was too light weight, and the "FRN" handles felt cheep and toy-like. it had developed MAJOR blade play in all directions. The side-to-side play was probably due to the lack of steel liners. The "FRN" is not strong enough to stand alone without liners. The other major problem was the lock. The lock is so weak that the knife can be closed with the lock engaged. the lock ,or lack there of, also allows for serious up-and-down blade play. This knife does not feel safe for use, even very light tasks. The two less important problems are the blade steel and the spring assist. It is AUS8; a steel i do not like. SOG's AUS8 seems much lower quality than Cold steel's AUS8, and will not hold or take a very sharp edge. As for the assist, It is SOG's "SAT" or SOG assisted technology. The assist works fine, but it is slow. The only reason it seems the knife is assisted is to serve as A detent so the knife can have it's junk lock, witch has no form of detent.
Those are the two knives i am really disappointed in. I may have went a little too far on explaining why the knives were a disappointment, But maybe my post will somehow help someone.

Hmmmm....
Im glad to say that I have to think about this one..
I had some issues with my Benchmade Griptilian, but that was half my fault. I spent alot of time fondling one in the store so that was all of my decision. I got a few months of use out of it anyways AFTER I fixed the play and it wore in...
My CASE Peanut. Large pen blade has a curve and leans towards the center. Flat (yes flat) part on the edge towards the tip. The CASE shield is even stamped wrong. The top of the shield is barely even stamped, and the bottom of it is really deep. Gaps, etc.
At least it is hand-finished I guess, but still. All of the hype and it came shoddy.
SOG Twitch-2
Everything. It just sucks. I can't think of anything that is good about it. And the $40 would even be better on 1600 gumballs.

I bought a Ontario Rat 1 that after about 3 weeks developed blade wobble/play. Not a biggie it only cost 30 bucks but dissappointing considering the reviews.
Please try it again. My cousin beats the hell out of his and there is no play, and it's still centered. I think you have a dud.

Kershaw cryo, I like everything about it but the steel. Takes a good edge , holds it as long as a I can hold my breath.
.

The only knife that really bothered me was a Spyderco Endura. It had this tolerance slop in it were it would ''click'' with play when I pressed down to cut anything. I never bother manufacturers about their knives over trivial matters. I had some roughly ground Beckers, my ESEE Venom 6 has some micro chips from use in its cutting edge etc. Not major defects that couldn't be over come with more use and sharpening. But that blooding jumping click drove me nuts. I finally sent it to Spyderco, spoke to a lady in that dept. on the phone, and they sent me a tight one. To tell you what Spyderco is made of: 1. I forgot to send return shipping. 2. I asked for and recieved a different colour. No accusation, admonishments, or finger pointing toward me. I was incredibly impressed with Spyderco and slightly embarrassed about forgetting the shipping fee. What is their motto again ? ''Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is looking'' ? I'm a believer.

Haha I hear you! I recieved mine with the edge nice towards the tip and the rest was pretty blunt shape edge. I'll probably reprofile it and I took the thumb stud off because it gets in the way of stropping. But it does tend to dull a little quick.

1. Emersons...although his designs are cool as hell.

2. M2 auto custom from Walter Brend. Side to side play was off the charts compared to the other ones I felt. Dealing with Brend himself is another story...avoid!

3. Will Zermeno azrael ..horrible fit and finish, cracked carbon fiber around screws, ridiculous side to side etc..knife looked like someone's first attempt at knife building...laughable(was new from maker too) avoid!

Im sure its an alright knife but it doesn't get any carry time only because of the where its made.

I don't understand this logic, some of spyderco's best come from Taiwan. What reason do you have not to carry it, due to it being made in Taiwan? How does this at all affect the performance of the knife? I am just curious.

Some knives just take a little warming up to. When I first got my SnG I was not a fan, but after carrying it for a bit, and the lock settling in, I find myself liking it more, the more I use it.

I will come to Plastid's defense and say I also hold a negative conotation to anything made in taiwan, especially steel. I'm sure my opinions are outdated, but I've had some very bad experiences with [cheap] Taiwanese steel in the past. Some people just can't move past their own experiences. Speak to any Vietnam vet that had their M14 taken away and an M16 given to them, they are unlikely to praise the AR-15 even though it's a fine platform [now].

I haven't bought any Taiwanese knives recently so I can't speak to their current quality.

By the same logic I ran into a POS made in the USA Gerber, I guess things made in the USA are crap (tongue in cheek comment :P) Pick up a Gayle Bradley or Southard Flipper, the quality oozes off those suckers, they might change your mind

Why are people so racist against Taiwanese? I don't recall them doing anything horrible to us.

Oh and yes, I am disappointed in a lot of knives. Luckily I found a few makers who don't disappoint me and I just stick to them so I can limit how much time I spend complaining.

I understand not wanting a product made in china/ Taiwan or wherever. I don't understand not finding out where it was made before you bought it. I would bet the blanket the photo's were taken on was made their also.

I read so much of people singing the praises of the Case Penut that I decided I had to have one. How anyone can find that small of a knife to be useful is beyond me.

I was once give a Case Tiny Toothpick, way too tiny for me.

I was also underwhelmed with the Kershaw Leek. Just not my cup of tea for some reason.

After hearing so many glowing reviews of the Benchmade Griptilian 551, I bought one. I've never been able to adjust the pivot to where the blade swings freely with no lateral play. The point where the play is eliminated, the pivot is at the point where it requires significant wrist action to flick open.

Same here PS Rage, after unboxing my Hisshou, and seeing all the cheap plastic they used I put the handle flat twords my eye and looked down the blade and it had a dent in the blade. it was not straight, a bend, about half an inch long. The second is a SOG Flash 2, the arc lock failed and the blade burrowed into t.he middle part of my index finger, now past the point of where it cut my finger, I can feel anything, after all that the blade has side to side play. I think SOG's claim to how strong the arc lock is, is false advertisement.

Yeah like every spyderco lockback I've ever had... endura 4 wave, Caly 3.5, manix light all had unacceptable blade play for the price. My BM hardtail mini has very minor bladeplay but it's like a 140 dollar knife so it should have zero play IMO...

Every Gerber that I have ever purchased throughout my entire life. My expierences of several different knives made by them have been disappointments, it seems every two or three years I give them another chance to redeem themselves they have not yet done so in 20 plus years of buying knives.

Speaking of the Gerber De Facto looks pretty neat, and it is about time for me to give them another chance to impress me, does anyone have expierence with this particular blade?

I'm probably gonna take some hell for this but i was disappointed with the zt 560/561 I've owned 4 of them ,i believe trying to find the one that was perfect, all of them the detent was either too weak or it had blade play something, so i bought and sold a few, and everyone of them I had had something wrong with them, I may just be picky, but for the price i expected alot more , but never got it , so i gave up on the 560 /561 and went back to the 550 which IMO is a much better knife. That's just my opinion.
