Ever have a knife you just tried and tried to love, but just never took?

As I look over my knives I see several that I have really tried to love and just can't seem to put them into the EDC rotation for long. They are all great knives of excellent build and quality, but a few just don't do it, yet I can't get rid of them.

I was that way with the Sebenza 21. I wanted to love it but its horrid thumb stud design wasnt designed for working wet hands.

ESEE 4. The handle just doesn't feel right in my hand and I don't want to pay up for aftermarket grips.

Because God gave me a sweet spirit, I'm almost always able to find something good about a particular knife. Same things with kids, animals and cars. But not adults. They really irritate me.

I have sold a very few knives in the past several years, but its only when their good attributes are outweighed by the knife's the fair market value.

Emerson commander for me, I like Emerson knives in general but just did not care for it. I traded it a week after getting it.

Send it to me:)

Benchmade Contego for me. A really great knife but something about it turned me off.

I was excited for the Contego too. However, the bleeding hand jimping was terrible and, to be blunt, it needs a nose job.

Still kinda on the fence about my 'Zaan. The fit and finish are absolutely phenomenal, but it's by far the hardest knife I own to open one handed.

Buck 110. It's a classic and everyone should have one, but once you get beyond the history it's not that great. It's heavy, slippery, doesn't hold an edge that well and mine developed blade play quickly with light use. Mine has been relegated to a dresser drawer probably never to be used again.

The spyderco endura 4 wave. It develops side to side play so quickly and I could never get over that.

Sebenza for me as well. Not very ergonomic handle, thumb stud is way too small and one sided, and I was worried I was going to break it every time I opened it with some speed. Just not for me, but I keep buying into the hype and coming back to it. Never carry it though.

I can be picky about different aspects of a knife. I bought a Benchmade 690 for dress carry but never actually carried it. I bought a Leek, Chive and Ladybug but decided that they were too small for me. I know that there isn't anything wrong with any of these, they just didn't grab me.

The fact that the designer won't warranty it if it is flicked open didnt inspire confidence to me either.

I actually didn't find the jimping too abrasive, but didn't like the fact that it was EVERYWHERE! Way too much jimping:( Still a really well made knife.

Every Spyderco knife I've bought for myself :(

I try, I really try, but I just don't dig them. I like them enough to gift them to other people, but knife after knife I end up feeling brain-damaged for having bought another one. I'm always like "everyone loves these, just because the last five haven't worked out that doesn't mean I should give up, I just need to find one I like. Buy a Sage 1, you'll probably like that one"--not so much. It's like Lucy pulling the football out from under Charlie Brown, except that I do it to myself ;)

I gave away three of them as gifts this year for other people (two Natives I bought to gift and a Chapparal I bought for myself and immediately decided wasn't for me), but my New Year's resolution is to never buy another Spyderco knife for myself.
