Ever pull out your edc and scare someone?

Whenever I pull out my Endura or flip out a kershaw, people are like "Holy crap.. is that leagal"?

I scare the crap out of people when we go camping and I have my big KA BAR Camp Knife on my belt.

i bought an ax at Walmart

I bought an axe at a hardware store, and got questioned by the cashier and the customers in line if I was going to be using it for chopping up bodies. Of course I was also buying a large roll of plastic sheathing, but still ...

Yeah, Dexter showed a lot of people how to get away with it!

I've found that telling people how much your knife costs tends to make them less apprehensive.:)
I mean, who's going to stab someone with a $200 knife?
Tends to make people realize you're a collector type rather than a mass-murdering type.

If nothing else tell them your user name on here and that should put them right at ease.

i bought an ax at Walmart and the checkout guy said, good evening miss are you going to dismember someone tonight? I said I am considering it! He said be careful the blood leaves a lot of evidence and the cops can detect it. I said that's why I do it in the woods so the ground soaks it up. He just looked at me like, maybe she really does do that.
ROFLWTIME...I wish I could have seen his face...Thank you Jill!! Your story just me made my day.

But back to topic: I scared some people, though some NKP scared me even more. For instance, one day I was pulling out my Byrd Robin SS at a good friend's apartment and put it on the table when he asked me if he could take a look. I showed him the knife and he asked me if it was for stabbing...that scared the hell out of me. It has a tip, so it must be for stabbing and killing people, right?

But where does all this paranoia come from? When I was having a few drinks at a bar, another close friend and I starting talking about whether knives are primarily tools or weapons. He immediately said, that they were weapons to be used against people and whatever I'd say it wouldn't change his point of view.
So I asked if he was scared of me. He denied. "I know you"....
At this point I really wanted to make him think about the whole issue. So I asked where his idea of knife=weapon came from, if friends of him had been hurt or sth. (I already knew this hadn't been the case). So asked him again for the reason, and all of a sudden he just said "The media"...

Can you imagine how I felt? He didn't even realize what he'd just said. I changed the subject afterwards and enjoyed the feeling of victory while I was sipping on my Cuba Libre. Yes, I just couldn't change his mind...;)

I was having lunch in the teachers lounge and pulled my Rucksack out of my pocket to cut up a bit steak. One of the left leaning anti gun teachers shouted out that that knife was illegal. I politely told her I wasn't a kid and carried a knife since I was 9. She never said anymore as she knew the principal would back my play. My room was next to the copy center; guess who came by to ask me to cut the plastic bans on the computer paper box? I don't teach full time anymore and am a sub in a different district. I carry several knives but never open them when anyone is around.

Last night we went to dinner in a very nice place in Seattle and took a 110 along just in case I need to cut up a steak. I ordered the hanger steak and it was so tender I didn't need a knife but they did provide a Laguiole steak knife and it was a nice touch. The place was full of sheeple and was glad I didn't need the 110. It got me to thinking that maybe a nice Laguiole folder would be a good choice for evening wear and steak house duty.

Not scaring people with knives is one of the fringe benefits of working for Bass Pro Shops....One of the few fringe benefits.

If I told them where said name came from, it might.
Remember Mystery Men?
"I'm the Blue Rajah, not knifey boy or STABMAN, the Blue Rajah."
I just LOVED the name, and figured someone should use it.

but you're not even wearing blue!

I work at an auto assembly plant and I pulled my spyderco out to fix something at work before the line stopped. The supervisor asked why I had a knife at work. I told her because I'm not allowed to bring a gun to work. She didn't know what to say. LOL

+1 ;)

My Spyderco Military and CRKT M21SFG get tons of those "funny" looks from people. Even worse is when you get people that say the stupidest things, "I'm sorry, but I'd feel better if you didn't bring a knife here." or "Do you really need that here?"

I've carry a knife of some sort everywhere. Just like my Surefire, it's always there when I need it.

.

Tell them "I'd feel better if you weren't an idiot, but that isn't going to happen either.":D

I'm a pretty happy-go-lucky dude.. and my demeanor pretty much defines me. I did work at a government law firm for a while, and I would strip and clean my Seb at my desk with no problems. Of course, every time something needed opening.. I'd get.. "Arch, bring your switchblade over here." It was all fun, and I showed/discussed anyone who showed the slightest interest my sm. seb... I even helped one of the lawyers pick out a Benchmade for his son. Another job I had was also at a govt. admin. office, where my EDC considted of either a Sm. Seb or a Strider SA.. Of course, the first time my boss saw the SA, she said "damn boy, what you need that for." I just said that I liked the object, and it is legal... after a while we were in the elevator and she said that she felt more comfortable with me around... so with the bad stories there can also be good ones. The only negative I've encountered is on the river, where as a Professional guide, you are required to carry a knife, and can be fined $250 for NOT carrying... I had a lady say... "WHAT do you need THAT for???" In this situation, I just smiled and said "In case I have to kill you! *wink*"

I had a woman make a "scene!" at a local sports bar calling my ZT 0301 a "switchblade" when she saw me open it to cut something. She made a pretty big scene but was leaving anyway. So she just went away and it was dropped when I explained it was AO to the bartender.

Some of you seem very attention starved. You very well know how people react to knives, especially if they're assisted-opening or perceived as mean looking or deadly.

"Yep, some zip ties here... you know, instead of using prudence and waiting 30 seconds and opening this where there isn't a crowd of people, I think I'll just use my 4 inch assisted opening camo coated blade..."

Later on the forums...

"CAN YOU BELIEVE THE AUDACITY OF THESE PEOPLE GETTING MAD AT ME FLICKING OPEN MY LARGE KNIFE OUT IN PUBLIC?? HAVEN'T THEY EVER USED A KNIFE BEFORE UGGHH I HATE SHEEPLE!"

Regular non-knife folks get panicky around a SAK - what do you think is going to happen when you deploy your tactical knife to cut up a sandwich?

Wait till carrying knives are banned entirely, you'll all get to learn when its cool to whip out the knife, and when its not :D
