Every Day Carry; What are You Packing?

I like the simplicity of a revolver, .38 caliber. Practice with light kicking wadcutter target type ammo, and there is some really hot man stopping ammo to actually carry.
That being said, my aunt edc's a kel tec p32 that weighs 6 ounces and carries on a pocket clip like a folding knife. With Winchester silvertips it has not had a failure to feed or fire in over 1000 rounds.

I carry a Ruger 1911 Commander or a G23.
The best EDC pistol I have ever carried is a Sig P232.

K frame Smith, 3" barrel, .357mag Model 65.

.... and this the THE BEST way to decide what is going to work for you ...!!!! Can't beat hands on..!!!!!!!! :D

Thank you guys for all the words of wisdom and all the recommendations. Please keep them coming.

And of course (should go without saying) a Silent Knight slung across your back. ;)
I highly doubt that anyone would want to mess with anyone who had a Silent Knight strapped across their back.

Garth, I will be taking you up on that offer.

My wife carries a Springfield XD sub compact 9mm. With the extended magazine (which I like as it fits my hand better), it holds 16+1. With the standard magazine, I believe it's 13+1. This is a nice small handgun that is easy to carry.

You have received several good suggestions; however, you should seriously consider the following: 1) The more CONVENIENT it is to carry (usually based on size / weight)..., the more LIKELY you will have it with you ALL THE TIME, that means all day, every day. And, 2) If you ever need to use it (GOD forbid), you will be under an EXTREME amount of stress fueled by a massive dose of adrenaline (therefore, simpler mechanical mechanisms will be easier to operate WELL). Your best choice, in my humble opinion, would be an Airweight Smith & Wesson. Also..., shoot, at least, five-hundred rounds through it before you trust your life to it. That goes for ANY handgun you choose. GOOD LUCK.

Lora, take Garth up on his offer to see what you favor regarding semi-auto vs. revolver, calibers, weight, and overall feel in YOUR hand.

I carry an old S&W .40 cal. semi-auto everywhere, but then again I live in the "boonies".

Springfield xds is a great compact 45. I can't believe how smooth and accurate it is. I think the make other calibers now.

M&P Shield .40 for me, but it's available in 9mm. I really like the thin profile of this gun. I also have a S&W 640-1 .357(revolver) with internal hammer, it's a bit bulkier, but really packs some serious heat. I would also recommend the S&W Bodyguard .380. It's great for small hands. Springfield XDs in 9mm, or S&W 642 .38 special. Good luck on your quest! Lots of choices, do some serious thinking on how you are most likely to carry the gun, that will help simplify your decision. Odds are you'll be like most of us, and have a 4 or 5 different carry guns, :D

I think a Sig Sauer P938 would be a good choice for small handed people. I love this pistol. Trigger is my favorite out of any pistol I've shot, very well build, very attractive looks,small,9mm is descent round. My favorite polymer guns are glocks any of them you can't go wrong. XDS in 45 another good choice. If I had to get in the mind of a woman though I'm thinking most women want a gun that is sexy. And Sig Sauer P938 or P238, Kahr PM9, Springfield XDS are sexy guns that have a very good reputation.Except the XDS recall. Sig P938 is one of the pistols i still have out of alot i have tried. Also maybe M&P sheild great trigger. All stated are great for CCW and if you want alot of power in a small package Glock 27 gen 4, 30S ,29 Gen 4, Ruger LCR in .357 or 38. All good choices.

I second the Sig P938. I've been conceal carrying it for the past year (esp with a VersaCarry) and it is definitely a great fit. Performs flawlessly at the range. I tried a pocket holster initially, but I think IWB is the best option (esp at 430 position). Overall a great package.

I've had a carry license since 1994 and have carried dozens of different makes and models over the years. I always come back to a Glock 9mm. I think the Glock 19 is about a perfect handgun, but can be a little large for a small frame person to conceal. The Glock 26 is a great compromise gun because it possesses all of the positive attributes of Glock handguns in a small 10+1 capacity frame.

I recently sold both of my Les Baer 1911's (one of which was a SRP Hard Chrome with 1.5" at 50 yard guarantee) and went back to my HK45CT for "jacket weather", Glock 26 for "hot weather" and Ruger LCP for back up.

Carrying a handgun requires commitment beyond training, etc. You'll end up changing your clothing style to conceal or will leave the gun at home because it's too big or buy a second smaller gun.

I believe in a minimum of two carry options: the one you want to carry (like a G26) but can't always manage, and the one you can always carry (like a LCP).

My wife has had a license for 8 or 9 years and ended up choosing a Glock 26 for around the farm and a LCP for going into town. As a side, she has EXTREMELY small hands.

There have been a couple of recommendations for Kahr handguns . I had a Kahr CM9 (subcompact 9mm) for back up carry, and my wife couldn't overcome the heavy double recoil spring to chamber it.

As others have said, compact guns are typically easier to shoot than subcompacts, but that is the trade off for conceal-ability/comfort. For CCW / court defensible use, I personally don't envision many scenarios where I'd shoot more than about 10 yards (30 feet). On my farm the distances could be greater, but I open carry a HK45 Compact Tactical which is a very accurate gun inspire of its awful trigger.

As a side, our license allows for open carry but we only do so in our rural area. If we go into town we conceal.

Winter carry is a .45ACP 1911 (ParaOrdnance LTC)
Summer carry is a Kimber Solo 9mm - before that I carried a Kel-Tec PF9 (mine was NOT reliable out of the box, but I sent it back to KelTec and they sent it back as a 100% reliable pistol).

Definitely get someone's advice, visit gun shops, and do some shooting. Garth's offer sounds great! Brand for me? Glock. I do own other brands, but mainly carry one of my six Glocks on a daily basis. Caliber? Winter, with heavy clothing to encounter - 45. Other seasons, you can go smaller, but larger calibers tough to beat. 40 S&W great balance between 45 & 9mm. Good luck, Lora!

And specific models? Winter: Glock G36. Fall/Spring: Glock G27. Hot summer (shorts), Ruger LCP. Cheers.

I'll start this like I start all of the CCW threads.......Ewww......Glock :barf:

With small hands and wanting a small gun, Kahrs are a good option IMO. I carry a Sig 290 which is a small DAO pistol, and I find it comfortable and more accurate than the 938 I've shot.

For the love of all that's holy, if you have a chance to get a Remington R51......don't.

Sig 238, maybe an older Mustang but everything with that magical pony is going to increase in value so I wouldn't carry an original just from that stand point.

They are kind of big, but hell they're proven, Bersa Thunder 380s.

Oh, Glocks, revolvers, all firearms.....they're man made, they can and will break and fubar. Don't let anyone sell you a pistol under the notion that it will never break or never fail. They all do and can.

I used to carry a 357 mag SP101, thing was a tank but wasn't terrible to shoot with full bore 357s. But my 4" SP101 with full bores kind of hurts, I'd rather shoot full bore 41s all day long than that thing

. For me carrying a semi auto has been more comfortable, when it comes to pistols, it's just what feels more comfortable to you and how weight/size fits your needs

My wife has a Kimber Micro Carry .380 that suits her very well...and also a sig p224 in 9mm.
The sig p938 is an excellent choice also

Both are good everyday carry, suited to smaller hands and easy to conceal.
