I am not saying that Glock's are %100 infallible. But in my experience, and in my observations, Glock's seem to hold up under rugged use to a greater degree than other pistol brands. And yes, Glock USA did offer incredible deals to US law enforcement agencies in order to get them to use their pistols. They would not continue to be used, if they did not perform up to standard. But please, everyone do your own research, make your own choices. Now let's get back to those wonderful Busse knives!

My dumb butt carries a Sig P220, front right hip IWB, and sometimes a Kimbed TLEII....

I'm looking for a pocket sized for myself and Lady Gravel also!!!

Lora, pick a gun that fits your hand. Find the same gun that points we'll (naturally) . Make sure your trigger finger can properly pull the trigger with out losing proper sight alignment. Seek professional training. Always remember good gear ain't cheap and cheap gear ain't good. Gun fit is a personal thing not someone's opinion.

A long coat with a sawed-off mossberg 12 gage shotgunn in a sling.... loaded with buckshots would stop most predators lol.....

All kidding aside, I live in Norway so carrying annything (also knife) would get you in big trouble, but I have a full size S&W MP9 to take to the range. Love it and it has never let me down.

Maybe look at some of the mid size or compact versions of the mp line?

Bobber, you mean like this one. This one's loaded with 00 buckshot and slugs everyother round. I'd like to CCW it but as of now don't have a trench coat. :D

No CZ love?

I got the glock 19 a couple month ago and will be letting it go. I just shoot the CZ better and it feels better in the hand. The glock is cool, just not for me.

When I started getting into pistols a couple years ago, one of the guys at the Yard said to buy a 22 too for increased practice- think that makes a real lot of sense. I have a Browning Buckmark as well and love it.

It's heavily rumored that Glock will offer a version of the 42 in 9mm. If it does it should get a serious look and I'm certain there will be a wait list for those that don't move quickly.

Lora, take Garth up on his offer to see what you favor regarding semi-auto vs. revolver, calibers, weight, and overall feel in YOUR hand.

I carry an old S&W .40 cal. semi-auto everywhere, but then again I live in the "boonies".

^--- THIS!!!!
FWIW, In addition to what the very important "fits" well in your hand, it needs to be in a caliber you can consistently and accurately shoot. You want something that doesn't fatigue your hands and arms, or scare the crap out of you if you have to fire it more than once or twice. If it's a smaller caliber, (like 9mm), but you're Annie Oakley with it, then there is your choice of caliber. Three very well placed 9mm hits usually wins vs. one poorly placed .45 hit.
My wife confiscated my Glock 19, and I wouldn't want her shootin at me with it!!!!

I rotate between a g27 mostly in .40, but sometimes converted to 9mm threaded, a Colt New agent in .45acp. Both at 4o'clock outside the waistband. Or, a Kahr pm9 in back right pocket when I can't open carry.

I thought this was called bedside home protection... :D Nice gun

Think yourself lucky you can carry anything at all. I can't even legally carry a folding knife or a slingshot; if the police caught me with even a swiss army knife they would take it from me. I wouldn't mind, but lots of teenage kids carry knives illegally. What the hell I'm I supposed to do if I'm getting mugged and they decide to shiv me just for the hell of it? It's pretty much the only reason why I've kept up with MMA training over the years. I was never much good, but given that you can't carry a weapon here it's all I've got if someone wants to hurt me or my family. The police here are very good and trustworthy, but it's not like I can carry one around in my pocket.

I feel a bit silly being a man and giving a woman carry advice.

Other than choosing something reliable that fits you I feel there are enough differences to make this almost esoteric....but I have to throw in my .02$ anyway. It is still a fascinating topic.

Truth is I don't EDC, I am a school teacher so edc is out. Outside work it depends on the weather. Colder and more clothes means bigger gun for me. Warmer and less clothes equals smaller gun.

Yes, I understand the consistency argument, but I have a host of handguns and enjoy packing different guns depending on the situation and my whim. Maybe whim is a bad word, I suppose nothing gun related should be left to a whim.

Some might even make the argument that you/me/anyone should carry unless they are very dedicated....pick one gun...practice with it....carry it.

I am not sure there is any "wrong gun" unless it is unreliable or you can't shoot it well. The gun you have on you when you need it is the right gun.

Anyway, for me winter,...usually a full size Kimberly 1911, or Glock model 21....summer,...S&W 629 Centenial Airweight,...very sweet, can be carried comfortably almost anywhere.

As far as why law enforcement carry certain guns;

Departments buy based on the cost, the fit of the gun for most officers, and in case they would need to swap magazines in an emergency. Ability of the armorer to have parts on hand, etc.

This is why you see all officers in a dept carry the same gun. If each officer was able to choose their own I bet we would see a wide variety of arms carried by law enforcement.

Gun fit is one of the reason that the S&W M&P has been seeing some wider usage. It's the same platform but with the ability to change backstraps the fit is better for a wider range of hand sizes.

But this is why you have to choose your own, and not buy just what LE has.

The smaller autos do have a stronger recoil spring. I have a kahr p9 and cm9 and there is a difference, so like everyone else is saying; go try a bunch out. :)

I loathe polymer with a fiery passion and will never recommend it for either firearms or holsters (Sorry, Brownie).

You will find many folks dissing Glocks. Don't know about the midwest, but you will rarely see a police officer out here that doesn't carry a Glock. There might be a reason for this.

That reason can be explained in two words: Lowest Bidder

Lora (and Lexi), you might want to look at the SIG/Sauer P239. The are very shootable, particularly in 9mm.

Polymer doesn't rust or require care..... Lighter than metal gun..... Several polymer guns have been around long enough to prove their worth... Many of them make for light, comfortable, reliable carry options.
