Everybody NEEDS an Izula

I wasn't sure ac1d0v3r1d3. I really dislike some of the "fanboy" stuff that follows certain knifemakers. I hope that RAT/ESEE remembers who got them here as you allude to.

I really dislike the fan-boy thing as well. But ESEE has really nipped that issue in the bud with their disclaimers. Did I mention that the biggest reason I bought the Izula is the warranty?

I assume that the folder will have the same warranty. Am I correct in that assumption? If that's the case I'll probably pick one up. Anybody know if they are going to come out with a TI framed version? I'd definitely be in then.

We're on the same page ac1d0v3r1d3. Great product great warranty. I read on the sub-forum, some time ago that they had got one Izula back for replacement. That's a good knife!

I always assumed that the Izula folder was going to be TI but now it's a folding D2 blade (don't like 'em personally) and gundude73 said a SS framelock.

The website pic looks like a gray G-10 on one side and Lord knows what on the other. It does say that "Specs, and colors may change slightly with actual production models"

We can only hope that it's as fine as their fixed Izula and a "must have" folder at a fair price. ;)

If it is a stainless framelock, then the side that isn't G-10 has to be stainless, right?

That's what I was thinking Bill1170. A G-10 scale over steel and non scaled slab on the other side, sounds heavy to me. It would make a dent in your pocket.... literally....lol :D

We'll see Randall Adventure has been doing everything right so far, let's hope they pull this one off in style too.

Well, I said I can't justify another fixed blade, but that folder is most likely going to find its way into my hands soon as it comes out! As long as they don't go all looney-tunes with the price...

I've heard both good and bad about D-2. Don't own any. Will have to research it.

I'm hooked. Got an Izula about a month ago. Now I am saving for a RC-3.
I have many knives with 1095 blade steel. RAT does 1095 the best. Easy to sharpen and stays sharp for a long time.

yes Jeff said the frame will be SS, and the blade will be D2, the image that you are looking at is a photoshop that a forum member made up. it may or may not look like that. also as you may or may not know ESEE is really busy with their projects. so the folder could be pushed back or be introduced late 2010.

So I plan on wrapping my Izula handle, but since I work on fishing boats a lot the knife is gonna get wet. Not just salt water wet, but like black-stinking-sludge-that-hasn't-seen-the-light-of-day-for-years wetness. Anybody know of a lacquer or something I can dip the handle in to make it water proof?

Not sure of any lacquer that will hold up to salt water and daily hard use. I think that if you wrap the Izula you may be in for a world of stink.

I've had an Izula for a few months and love it. It's often my EDC. Carries very easily. Folders feel almost a little cumbersome to me now.

Wrap it then coat it in marine epoxy, or better yet, try to coat the cord first, then wrap, then coat it again.
I would go with this kind of wrap though to eliminate places for gunk to accumulate.

I just bought a new Desert Tan Izula - it's gonna need a tan digi-camo pair of pants hoopster? Got any in stock? Why do I keep buying Izulas? I only have 2 hands! :D

Yep, I'll send you a message.

Your best bet would be to lightly abrade and alcohol-clean the coating on the handle, extending well past the point where the wrap will go. Then coat the handle with 100% solids marine epoxy. Coat it once, let it gel partially so it is still a bit sticky, then coat again. Let cure overnight, then wrap as desired.

If you coat it again after wrapping, it will be difficult to remove the wrap, but it would help keep out pollutants and also hold things together. A cord wrap used on fish is going to smell nasty fast and be hard to clean. So coating again after the wrap could improve the tool's hygienic properties.

Epoxy resin is not inherently UV resistant, so you may want to mix some graphite powder into your epoxy to help protect it from sunlight. Gougeon Brothers make the WEST System epoxy and also sell powdered graphite. You can purchase it many places, both online and at boating stores.

*Big shout out to hoopster for the great sheath can't wait to work with you again. I'm all set up for belt carry, or necker depending on the situation.

The izula is the culmination of everything you need in an EDC knife-the simplicity of a fixed blade, the ease of maintenance, durability and edge retention of 1095, and a very very reasonable price. Why people spend 400 dollars on fancy folders to do the same job is beyond me. The izula is better looking than half of em anyway.
