Everyday carry vs everyday use?

I am a Kitten of Death after all...

Point of order: while your signature indicates that you are a Kitten of Death, your title under avatar and username indicate that you are, instead, a Non-Binary Manatee of Death.

While we clearly can't dispute the consistent connection to Death, I find it difficult to accept that you can be both a kitten and a manatee. Well, unless species is "fluid" now.

For me it’s very rare that I don’t use my knives daily several times a day. I think it depends on your job and lifestyle that makes them a necessity or not. Also I rarely use scissors and use my knife instead whereas someone else would probably use scissors. Lol I guess since I grew up using knives I’ve been so accustomed to that scenario it’s just a normal mode of operation.

Multiple species disorder, much like multiple personality disorder. When I'm feeling fat, after spending a weekend doing nothing, I'm a manatee. Edit: Just found out its called "species dysphoria." Thankfully Dave Chappelle has not heard of this disease yet.

I use my EDC every day to open mail, packages, etc. Sometimes I'll sit in my car in the parking lot of Starbucks blasting Tom Macdonald's "Whiteboyz" and repeatedly open and close my OTF just to annoy the easily offended suburbanites. I consider that using my knife.

I'm with you, OP- I sometimes go whole days without using my pocket knife.
Honestly in the areas that you and I inhabit, there's probably very little critical need for a pocket knife- I know a fair amount of people that never carry a knife ever, and though I help them out from time to time, there's probably ways to get around it.

However, armed with my pocket knife and a stick I can keep myself entertained for hours.

I'll carry a knife until the day I die, regardless.

"Worst" case I use one of my knives almost daily at lunch and supper ... breakfast when they have "ham" and haven't chopped it up before I get it. (I hate when they do that. I'm not a rug rat.)

Well with easy open packaging, prepared foods and other convenient ways it has turned the once manual or laborious methods of life into antiquity and obsolescence. Not to mention the social condemnation and laws restricting the use of knives.

My ancestors were of the hardy type pioneers and their knives were a necessity for daily usage. I think that continued through my youth but my kids aren’t as knifey as I am. I’m trying to convince them and my grandkids to the fine art of knife use. Hopefully it will stick in case it becomes a necessity again someday.

I always have a knife in my pocket , I would consider myself lost without one and always use my knifes, I love working on them as well, I sharpen, strop, lube/ grease/oil and replace parts when they need it,maint work when ever needed.

Flashlight and a knife. And I use both multiple times a day. Flashlights come in handy even when the sun is up... for those corners it has trouble reaching.

How often do you throw a knife in your pocket at the start of the day, then put it away at the end of the day, and realize you never took it out in between?

Happens to me quite a bit, especially during the week. Just not a lot of opportunities to use a knife sitting behind a desk.

Apples are delicious, and their enjoyment is compounded when you cut it with a knife. But daily? ... Recommended!:cool:

I use some kind of cutting tool, multiple times in a normal day .

But most of that is in the kitchen food prep , shop , or a specific job of repair /maintenance that I will probably not use my EDC knives to complete .

My EDC are mostly for the unexpected small tasks , emergencies and SD .

I got a special knife for cutting pineapples and a different one to scrap crap off my boots . Another one for cardboard / package opening ...etc .

Don't carry any of them, EDC style .
