Everyday carry vs everyday use?

I carried small to medium sized folders when I was still working. Opening boxes/packages, pencil sharpening, etc. Now that I’m retired, a Vic rambler is pretty much all that is needed, although other, larger folders are carried too. Opening envelopes, boxes/packages. The toothpick is most useful. The little Vic goes in the pocket every morning when I’m dressed for the day, and is there until bedtime.

I carry some sort of knife everyday. It gets way more used when I am somewhere in nature, but it would be very surprising to someone who doesn't carry knives, that you get lots of use just by having the knife always near you. No more trouble with opening anything.

I have a SAK and fixed blade in my pocket every single day, regardless of what I’m doing. If I’m leaving my house I also have a pistol. The screwdrivers, the little blade, and toothpick gets the most action. Like others said, I like to be prepared. Also, I just simply enjoy knowing I have them. If I’m at home, just sitting around, then I’m usually whittling, sharpening, or stropping, because I enjoy it.

Quite often, though I tend to already have (mainly) folders in various places where I may want to cut something quickly (at desks, in the kitchen, in cars, at the work bench area etc.) so I tend to use those rather than whatever I have on me at the time.
I usually use my pocket knife if I am out of my own spaces.

After I started working mostly indoors, I went through a period when I decided I didn’t really need to carry a knife all the time - which proved to be true except all of those thousands of times I struggled to open something with the jagged edge of a key, or cut an apple with a plastic picnic knife. That situation went on for maybe 10 years I think, before I regained my senses.

Also, once you become known as the guy with the knife, other people start relying on you for cutting stuff. I have had people walk up to me with a box and just hold their hand out without saying a word.

How often do you throw a knife in your pocket at the start of the day, then put it away at the end of the day, and realize you never took it out in between?

Happens to me quite a bit, especially during the week. Just not a lot of opportunities to use a knife sitting behind a desk.
Not very often for me. My SAK Bantam cuts an apple everyday and opens mail at work. My Delica cuts up chicken so I can hide a pill in it for the pooch. So those get to be used everyday. The safe queens are of course, in the safe. I fondle'em at lest once a week so they don't get jealous.

I can't think of a day I haven't used my knife in quite a long time. If I'm not using it at work I'm using it at home because my room mates trash anything communal that's in the kitchen, so I'll use whatever I have on me for food prep.

Daily carry and daily use - even as a desk jockey. Letters/boxes need to be opened, food needs to be prepared, a lint needs to be cut off etc.
Staples are very conveniently removed with the Alox screwdriver/cap lifter tool...
However, which knife I use depends on who is around me...
Last week my boss surprised me by whipping out an old and very much loved Gerber Ridge to open a letter, so I am in good company...

Mine does not get used everyday, but I feel good knowing I have it when I need it. There is also the fidget factor. Variety is the spice of life but I am learning that sometimes smaller is better, does the job and ease of carry and makes sheeple less likey to go nuts at the sight of a knife. Granted, I am not going to change my knife carry simply on their reaction, common sense means not being stupid and flipping my knife out like a ninja. My SA Pioneer get used a lot, and I may get a Pioneer X For the scissors. Lately I have enjoyed carrying my Buck 112 Slim, it‘s light, keeps a decent edge, and is easy to carry.

I cannot remember a time during the work week that the only use of a knife was putting it in my pocket in the morning then taking it out at night.
Now the weekends can be a different story. Sundays do not seem to be a heavy use day for me.
