EverydayCommentary take on Survive

so only the blade steel is known for the bravo? looks like a cru-forge and the Fiddleback is prob an A2 or 01. I say he already has a winner in mind.

I don't have a bravo... but I do have a Survive and a Fiddleback custom in A2. I don't really find a need to compare them...seem like two totally different beasts to me.

imho

I dig the Bravo 1 (though haven't used a light one). The 4.7 pwns it in more or less every way, though. Just got a Cruforge V one, and it definitely eclipses the Bravo, in terms of handling.

I thought I would check in on this thread to see what has happened since I posted last.

I got the Survive! Knives GSO 4.7 and I can say for certain that it is a phenomenal knife, one of the best fixed blades I have ever use and will score very high in the review.

I also posted a video overview you can find here:

I think all of the silly talk about libel and slander has been addressed by Survive Knives. As for ad hominem attacks see any of the posts on the first page.

Before I got the knife I wasn't sure about the quality, and so I addressed my arguments at points I knew to be true--like their long wait times, confusingly worded website, and taking money up front. None of that is really debatable, even they admit they are experiencing problems related to these issues.

What is now clear having put in a ton of time and hard use with the GSO 4.7 is that the product itself is amazing. The sheath design is unconventional, but works incredibly well, the steel (mine is Cru Forge V) might be my new favorite hard use steel and the handle rocks. This makes fixing the business side of things even more important and having looked at their site it is clear they have cleaned up their product status stuff. Survive! Knives is taking all of the right steps here and I hope more than anything they survive (he he) the growing pains and make it big.

I think it is also fair to say, given the product and the responses to my criticisms, that they want to succeed. Knife fans should be patient with them...the wait is worth it. I am convinced, not by some of the silliness in this thread, but by the product and the company, that they have what it takes to make a successful business and make great knives.

Survive! Knives has my support, for whatever that is worth. Look for a full review in December.

Very cool, I'll check out the video.
If you can ever get your hands on their 3V, I think you will be even more impressed

Tony, I'm glad to hear you love the knife. Nice video. I'm glad you stopped back here.

Did you mean to say there were attacks against you in page 1 of this thread?

Silver Needle, yes, I did mean the first page. Generally things like "malcontent whiner" (2nd post) aren't responses to reasonable arguments. But either way, once the childish name calling and armchair lawyering ended, the conversation was very, very productive. And the knife is awesome. And Survive! Knives changed their site. All good. And worth the name calling baloney.

I saw that. Maybe we have different ideas of what an attack is, BUT I'm glad we're agreeing on the quality of your 4.7. Looking forward to another vid

He captured exactly why I bought both a CRV 4.7 1st and UB. Incredible value to a newbie to Survive...very very low entrance fee regardless of any negatives out there.........

Interestingly enough, I'm a Fiddleback fan as well, but mostly of the exchange users as they're just too nice for me to use when new.

Tony, flip the clip on the sheath upside down. This is how most of us carry the factory sheath, and it will remain secure while riding in a lower, more comfortable position. Sagewood Gear and Chiral Gromlin also each make great dangler kits for the factory sheath. Replace the clip with the dangler, and it makes a huge difference.

I flip the clip whenever stealth is a concern, as in hunting. Around camp, or while hiking, I carry one of my other S!K blades and use a dangler rig.

Thank you for your objective review. I look forward to your shootout.

Review is up: http://www.everydaycommentary.com/2...howComment=1479527814894#c2839139538139083463

Score: 20/20 PERFECT. I have awarded only 13 PERFECTS out of 318 products reviewed. Good knife.

Good stuff, and good on ya for sticking it out with us opinionated folks :)

I don't like coatings very much either but after probably a dozen or so hour long applications of Klean Strip and multiple trips to a scotchbrite wheel on a 1x30 grinder I can safely say it is the toughest coating on any knife I've tried to get nekkid. Fun project, but not worth the hassle.

Wonder if 3v would get 21/20 since it doesn't have coating and somewhat more upscale steel.

I would actually put the money down for a preorder of Anthonys knife. Westinghouse and Sm100 for 175$!! I will wait a year for that.

I had a 3V knife right next to the GSO 4.7 for the entire testing period. It is probably my 5th or 6th different knife in 3V. It was not clearly better than the Cru Forge. Obviously, it is not an apples to apples comparison because the knives have different grinds, but I was surprised at how well the Cru-Forge did. It could also be that I got a less than ideal 3V blade. It is very hard to isolate all of the variables when testing steels in the real world.

And no, nothing breaks the scoring system. If it did the Perceval La Francaise would have gotten like a 30/20. It was the best slicer I have ever used by a huge margin.
