Everyone's latest acquisitions!

In an early ("breakfast") mail call, 02-16-24.
An unexpected package. I opened it at the table, using the MAM lambsfoot.
Inside were three classic Stockmans.

I really like the "Old Hickory-ish" blade detail.
I touched up the edges and stropped it. Factory edge angle was +/- 10 degrees per side. At 10 degrees now. Blade steel is 1095. 😍

4 inch closed Imperial Frontier "Double Eagle". This one is NIB, but no paperwork in the box.

Homelite advertising knife, or a "Free With Purchase" bonus, I don't know. I have some gas powered Homelite groundskeeping equipment, so having the Homelite name on it does not bother me. Good tools. Blade steel is likely 440A. (Imperial-Schrade used mainly 440A on the "Schrade+" knives. There may have been instances were 440A was temporaraly unavailable so they used 425HC. As far as I know they never used 440C in a "Schrade+" knife.) This knife is only stamped "Stainless".

Last but certainly not least, a Case-Carhartt Collaboration(?) 63087 SS. A tiny little thing, only just ~3.25 inch closed.

An unusual Stockman blade combination: Clip Point; Spey; Pen. (I've been told this is a common blade combination on the Case 87 pattern.)
The standard combination is Clip Point; Sheepsfoot; Spey. However, there are some that delete the Spey, replacing it with a punch/awl/reamer. Some go 4 blades, keeping the standard 3, adding the punch/awl/reamer.

The package was sent by a very generous member who wants to remain anonymous.

I got on a Curtiss kick last year and now have several. What I have noticed the most about the older vs newer models is the difference in the scale thickness. The older ones seem to have thinner scales. Even ones produced in 2023, that have Magnacut blades, still use thinner scales.

Newer ones, to me being the ones with the skelotonized blade (cutout instead of fuller), all have thicker scales.

Other than that, performance, quality, action, all seem fairly consistent to me. I generally find that it is a great brand and very sturdy knife.
I got on a Curtiss kick too and went from owning none to now having 5. The older ones have thick scales, even thicker than the current gen, then they went to offering a slim or regular thickness and now back to a regular (thick). He also just came out with an F3LT that is thinner blade and scales. My F3's here.

I had 2 scheduled to arrive Saturday that were delayed, so nothing new this weekend since my last post 😅

I got a few CRK lanyards, and 2 sets of Timascus clips and back spacers for some of my Varga VBR MK IV, but nothing really noteworthy. Have a great weekend!

Picked this up at the Spyderco factory store.

So I had a gift card to Spyderco, and I happen to be in Colorado, about an hour from Golden.

Going in, I planned to look at the Kapara, Spydiechef, Military 2, and Amalgam.

I wanted to like the Amalgam, but the flipper tab interferes with the compression lock to easily close one handed. The peelply CF had a rough texture.

The Military was ok, but plain.

The Spydiechef was weird to me.

The Kapara has beautiful smooth CF, great action, and is cool looking. I had to grab it. I would have replaced the scales on the Military 2 and Amalgam, but probably not this. I have Lynch clip at home that will go on it. I fly back to Chiraq tomorrow night.

Also, it was my step nephew's birthday, he picked out a ladybug 3 salt.

Nice collection. Out of curiosity, what is the brand of knives to the left of the Curtiss knives?
