EVOlution Survival knife...

Ric,

in my ipinion, ATS34, along with steels such as D2, A2 (toolsteels etc) are fine for any knife.
These steels are WAY under rated these days with all of these 'fancy' steels...

Hell man, before S30v, the top makers used the above steels I have mentioned, and I can see a trend back towards them...

:D ...if you ask me...

V ground, now that would be interesting!

Now this is frickin sweet!

Sorry for the cloudy pic...;)

Evolution Special Operations...

Hello all:

I've been watching the threads about the EVO and Jensen Elite Blades since I first became aware of the knife's existence. I liked the all-in-one design of other similarly designed blades but wasn't quite happy with their blade shape/architecture. When I saw the EVO I knew that it was exactly what I was looking for, and after some research I decided that this knife would be my first foray into the the world of custom knives.

My dealings thus far with Peter Jensen of JEB have been nothing but enjoyable and pleasant. Peter answered all of my e-mail questions within a day or two (and there were alot of them).

Communication and the alleviation of my concerns about purchasing a knife on the other side of the world and having it shipped to the USA have been excellent.

As for the knife, EVO Standard in ATS 34 with the addition of more aggressive sawteeth as seen on the EVO Spec Ops and a medium sized handle for ease of grip change. I also requested a dual carry Scout style/Point down sheath configuration which Peter has said is no problem.

As Peter sends me updates or pictures of the knife in its development stages I will post the info here as long as he is agreeable to that. If anyone has any questions, please post the here and I'll answer them..

The countdown has begun!

Thanks,

Emptyglass

Not that I know of....I do know that there is one 'dealer' in the US that may be stocking them soon, but that is all I know...

Men, you should hold these EDC's! Frickin awesome!

Very nice job Peter, Great pictures too! I like the small one, is it single or double side ground?

Allen242

I have 3 of the Gecko's...(pictured at very bottom).

I have 2 skeletonised versions, 1 chisel and 1 V ground and the one pictured above with Micarta handle in chisel. They are a sweet little EDC!

I actually have grown quite fond of chisel ground knives for ease of sharpeneing and utility use.

Now Peter, where's my 6" bladed Gecko!? ;)

Gday all,
to answer a few questions:

*Yes, D2 is available
*Yes, all models can be V-ground (but cost a bit more)
* Heat Treatment: differential heat treatment(by myself) after stress relieving, hardening, triple temper and cryo(by Hills H/T) (edge at 60Rc)
*Allen-- knife pictured is chisel ground (but can be done in V
*Anguish-- email me which models you want prices on .... dont think i can post prices here
*Gundy-- thanks for posting the pics.....6" Gecko.....HMMMMMM....just say when

Hi all:

As I posted previously, after looking around for an all-purpose survival knife, I decided to make a Jensen Elite Blades Evo my choice. My experiences with the knifemaker Peter Jensen have been nothing but positive and pleasureable. Peter answered all of my questions speedily and accurately and generally kept me informed about the progress of my knife over the weeks it took to create it.

I ordered the standard Evo survival knife with a slight modification on the upper saw blade for more aggressive teeth in the SAK style. I also requested a Scout carry kydex sheath which Peter was kind enough to provide for me.

The knife was sent on a Monday to the East Coast of the US from Australia and arrived the following Monday via air-mail. End to end time from first payment to receipt of the blade was about 3 months.

The blade itself is very hefty and fits into my palm like a glove. The kydex sheath is very, very secure and I no fear of the knife dislodging from the sheath even under full inverted climbs or rappels or bouldering over rocky terrain.

I'll be submitting a field test after my next outdoor trip in a couple weeks but I have no doubts that the blade will function equally well as a draw knife, axe, chopper and all around useful tool for outdoor activity.

If any one is thinking of ordering from Peter and perhaps read something on these forums that was negative, let me offer an extremely positive review of the customer service and quality knife that I received.

Thanks,

Richard Curren

Thanks for the kind words Richard... and im looking forward to your feedback from the field.

As Richard has just found out, All new knives in the EVO line now come standard with a Phoenix Survival Tool (a firelighting tool)
see www.the-firestarter.com for more on this tool.

Well folks, I went and did it! I couldn't resist anymore. I ordered the EVO. With form and function in mind I think it is going to be a fantastic knife to own. It will be a few weeks until it is finished but it will be worth the wait. I intend to put it through a full review during the upcoming hunting season. I will let everyone know the results.

Thought i might give a bit of an update to those who care ;)
After numerous requests, i thought id better clarify the the three current "standard sizes " for the EVO , Spec Ops EVO, and Alpha Survival Knives.
"EDC" size is around a 5" blade
"Standard" size is 6.75" blade
and the "Ultra" size features an 8.5" blade

Below is one ive just finished
EVOLUTION SPEC OPS STANDARD
3/16" stock D2 tool steel, G10 handle slabs

Thanks Jared.

Now for something else new.
Introducing the EVOLUTION SURVIVAL TOOL.
This is a direct result of a request from a RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) Survival Instructor. While retaining mmost of the Standard EVO features , the blade length was extended to 9" to add to the knifes chopping power. A sharpened shovel tip was also considered essential to the concept. The straight design of the handle also adds to the knifes ability to be used as a digging tool....the micarta handle slabs fully cover the butt of the knife to add comfort if the handle is held 2-handed while digging.
(in case you are wondering why the emphasis on being able to dig with the knife.... many Australian bush foods are obtained by digging or scraping).
The sheath is based on the standard EVO Survival Sheath System, but features two accessory bands.
The knife will now be a permanent addition to the EVO line-up. And will be available in blade lengths from 5" up to 12"
The knife pictured below belongs to the RAAF Instructor.. and its made from 3/16" D2 tool steel.

Id be greatful for some feedback guys....

I just checked out your updated site Peter and it's awesome! I really like the new survival tool. It looks like it could make quick work of building a shelter or digging up Kurrajong roots. The stuff you're coming up with is truly inspiring. Keep up the great work! You're going to have to let me know how much that one is. Drop me a line.

Your EST is a very interesting design, it would make a great garden tool for the wife! Another excuse to buy a knife.:D Keep the great ideas coming Gundy and Peter.

This particular design has gone through some interesting changes. I can see the positive points about the EVOlutionary facets of the various models.

Good work. :)
