ATS 34 is just great, if properly HTd.

There are a lot of guys out there who don't know how to shapen. For them a knife is just a really expensive disposible razor blade. The report on the current riddle of steel indicated that they had a triangle sharpener seminar. Great idea, but it shows the depth of the problem.

If you can sharpen, and you particular use for the knife doesn't require years away from your stone, then I can't see any reason to have some of these new steels that are fractionaly longer edge holders, but significantly harder to sharpen. ATS 34 is a real using steel. Of course so is O1, you just have to keep the knife clean, and I'm not sure why that is such a big problem...
