Was everyone as excited as I am when they got their first Grinder ? I feel like a kid at Christmas since the Fed-Ex truck delivered the KMG. Hoping to have it up and running this weekend and be on my way to earning the knifemaker title very soon. Building a bench and running electric this weekend and pulleys getting delivered on monday. Hopefully I won't need assistance with my VFD setup due to all of the previous questions and answers on this subject. :D

Congrats! As much as I love my Coote, if I ever decide to get another grinder, I'll be giving Rob a call for sure.

Great grinder!! You will love it.

I have had mine for about five years now and I have never had a single regret, excellent product.

I want to order one of their horizontal grinders , bad!

Mark,
I was very close to pulling the trigger on a Coote but decided I would be smart wait a couple extra months and follow the advice of the folks with the greatest amount of experience in knifemaking. Basically if your serious about making knives get the best equipment you can and learn to use it. It has been a LONG couple months though, LOL.

I don't blame ya... don't get me wrong, I have ZERO regret about getting my Coote, but it would have taken forever for me to save up for the KMG...and I was getting really tired of using files...

It's so beautiful! Don't get it too dirty, or I'll do something. I just haven't thought of what it is yet. Maybe I'll get Nick on you.

Josh congrats from your hometown. I live in>>>>> Melbourne <<<<< as well, on Croton road.

I would LOVE to check it out sometime. ( ive never seen one in person). I want one of those soooooooooooo bad! I,ll probably build mine using Tracy,s plans.

Congratulations Josh! I can say, that's exactly how I felt when I got my grinder - and my band saw and my HT oven and... :D You were smart to wait it out and get the good stuff. You're going to be very pleased. I mean, even more pleased than just looking at it and petting it. ;)

The only thing I would have done differently had I known better, and some people may object, is to get at least 2 hp vs the 1.5 I did. I can stall that motor when I'm grinding heavily on the platen, and I sure wish I had more power when that happens.

Congratulations on your new KMG. Customer service with Rob is top-notch.

Fog2, Let me get this puppy up and running and settled in and we'll have a get together at my house. Perhaps we can get DCknives to join us for some BBQ and B.S. and some hands on grinding tips from a veteran.

Patrice- I painted it a kinda light textured green. Its a bit ugly but should be easy on the eyes without glare or distraction while grinding. Was thinking about giving it a whoop azz paint job but decided I'm liking it just the way it is... Mean Green

Ddavelarson- I debated in my mind for a long time and read every thread on the topic before making the decision to go with a Grizzly 3 hp and teco fm50 setup. I really think it'll be a long time before I utilize the extra power over a 2hp if ever. Grizzly motors were on sale so the total price difference for the upgrade to 3hp was only $60. For this cost I figured who ever wished they had less power but the real motivation for 3hp was longevity of the motor, which from my understanding more windings than less hp motors. I was shooting for getting a setup that won't leave me wishing to upgrade anytime soon.

Dave- I'm sure you more than anyone can tell how stoked I am about taking this plunge finally. I'm looking forward to buggin ya with a million questions LOL. At least it'll give us an excuse to get together like I said before, spending the day in your shop really lit the fire under my tail to get moving in the right direction. Thanks again for the inspiration and encouragement to go for it !

Troop- I can't imagine having to deal with customer service because this thing is built like a tank and I just can't picture anything going wrong with it. I will say though that this purchase was easy as pie and Rob quoted a 4-5 day lead time for SHIPPING. I was checking e-mail every 15 minutes waiting for the shipping notice from Beaumont and guess what, Fed-Ex delivered it on the 5th day. In my mind this was delivering goods 3 days earlier than quoted and what a surprise when it showed up ! Great job Mr.Frink and thank you. On a side note I was very pleased to do buisiness with the man who's generosity started all of the economic stimulus give-aways.

I have had my KMG for about 4 years now and the only regret I had was that I did not coat it with something... either bluing, oil, wd-40, whatever... it will rust with the exception of the wheels and platen (at last on mine). It only messes up the beauty... but I would recommend spending a couple minutes and protecting those steel arms...

I love my KMG

Sounds GREAT JOSH ! Just lemme know when. Dave has my # or you can email or leave a message from here.

Dave HOWDY, Im working on a batch of 20ish knives now(all different ). When i finish them i would like to show them to you for input.

Congrats Josh! I've been on the fence for months about ordering one myself, and yesterday I found out I'm going to be getting a tax refund, so that has just about pushed me over the edge. I've spent most of the morning reading old posts, trying to figure out what options and accessories I might want.
