Exploded view of Vegas Special

Dang, Bruce looking at all your picture posting is like a really good movie. I can't wait to get to the computer to see the sequel. It kinda addictive.

for some reason the pictures are not showing for me...

You may have your security turned up too much. These are photobucket images and may be blocked. Can you see that Pistol/dagger thread I have running? Its photobucket also.

David from Great Lakes Waterjet made me a plate to inlay the pearl in the walnut. I want to show that process. Actually its my first time so we'll see how it goes. Need to find 1/32" end mill still.

Bruce,
I'm 99% sure that I have three 1/32" endmills that I bought just after the OKCA show. I'm traveling and could have one to you by Monday, or if you're in a big hurry, I could have my wife overnight one to you.

Let me know.

They're not for me either. From what I've read (and please don't ask me to explain how this works) is that photobucket was hacked. It shows up fine for some people and others it does not. I don't understand how that operates. My sister who lives north of here can get on it and I can get on it on my work computer, my house computer will not let me on photobucket. I started looking up photobucket problems and some Turkish hackers have caused a frenzie with it. Sorry to get off track but I spent and hour trying to figure out how to see these pictures because I want to see them so bad and that's what I've found.

I'm really interested in this one.

I always rip stuff apart to see how it works.

Now that you mention it, i see the lockback, and i see the coil spring for the auto.

Where - how do you fire the auto - where is that trigger ?

Im glad the pics work now. Images really confuse me.

The blade is fired by the lock. No complications, simply push it to fire and push it again to release the lock. I think Im the proudest of the spring. I made it myself. If you read in the Machineries Handbook it gives mandrel diameters and piano wire thickness for any size spring you want. I turned the mandrel on my lathe to the suggested dia. and wound my own spring. Aint that cool? The sockets are cut with the cutter from Knifekits.com but their spring would sag out so I used both their cutters to make the socket wider and made my spring with almost one more coil. Waullaaa. Maybe I can show it in a picture. See the liner with the big hole?...the spring is so wide that I had to relieve the blade, liner and bolster. I wanted the bolsters very thin (geez this thing is wide enough already) so relieving the blade also made sense.

I would never have guessed it! Nice spring! I happened to bring home a copy of Machinery's Handbook today from my school shop class for summer reading. Is that piano wire? I didn't know it was suitable for springs.

Wow Bruce ! Very nice work ! There are some really neat details on this cut-n-shoot. Double set trigger ? Or is one trigger dedicated to just the "cut" ? Great looking engraving and feather pattern damascus (my favorite) ! Lock back auto  SWEET ! Outstanding job on the bluing too

In regards to the 1/32" e-mills ? I would get 2 ;), maybe even 3 or 4, but you already knew that ........ I'm sure :)

What color pearl is that ?

Awesome job Bruce ! Your Master Smith experience is evident in every single picture that you post !!

Amazing Bruce !! What gets me is how you have the idea, and get it out of you head and into steel and make it work. Most can concieve ideas, but very few can make them work in the real world, I would say your at the top of that list. Keep them coming

Only one trigger, the other one is the hammer. It is an "Under hammer" It will make more sense when you see it put together. Its hard to tell what the heck when you see just parts scattered out.

I bet those tiny end mills are fragile

The pearl is dark goldish colored. I dont know, Ive saved this set for 10 years. I dont have very good luck drilling pearl but it should be fine as an inlay.

very impressive Bruce, I can't wait to see the finished piece. If you'd quit
dicking around with those birds and pass on the gym a day or 2 you should be able to finish this baby up this week. Get to work.

Bill, you should see all the baby sparrows we raised now. About every bird house Kaye made is taken now. We just love our little backyard habitat.:)
Been riding my bicycle to the gym and back. Im starting to look like Nick Wheeler :D

The gun is the main frame and knife bolts onto the left side of it. Here is the gun put together. It will fire just like this.

Looks awesome!

So the hammer and pin strike at a 90 degree angle to the barrel, and that rod in the front is a safety? I don't think I've ever seen a setup like that before, learn something new every day :)

Maybe I forgot to mention that this is a front loader (muzzle loading) pistol. The hammer strikes a #11 cap on the nipple. The 22 cal BP is for black powder. The rod inserted in the front is the ram rod. I buy .22 cal. 30 grain lead bullets from North American Arms. They sell the cutest little muzzleloader revolvers. The nipples come from there also. They make a full line of cool mini pistols. They should pay me for advertising.

You know what? Looking at this picture I can see how the ram rod could have a second detent and easily be used as a safety! Youre a genious! Thanks guy!

Did you guys notice that the knife is a lock back auto? Its my first auto. Deadwood was an assisted opener.

Yeah Bruce, that was like the first thing I thought. I said to myself, "Hey, with that thingamajigger and that widgetty-doodle, this just HAS to be a lock back auto". :D

Very cool. Can't wait to see it assembled!

Regards,

Dave
