Howdy folks,

I'm sure this has probably been discussed before, but I'm looking for suggestions between the two Hinderer pens. I'm not super interested in the self defense aspects- I'm just looking for a nice looking, durable pen to round out my daily carry. I'm leaning towards the investigator, but I'm open to either and would love to her what y'all choose to carry. Also both are compatible with fisher space pen refills right? I drastically prefer blue ink, so that would have to be a day one change. Thanks for the help!

Hands down (for me) the Investigator. I write everyday with it. IF I leave it on my desk or in my truck and need to write - I go get it.
I wear a Large glove. Love the size. When I first got it, I said " Ooh smaller than I thought it would be" but then I started using it.
As usual Rick/Rob nailed it!

Well, depends on your preferences. By this I'm speaking to size of the pens. Investigator tucks away into pocket corners and is forgotten until needed. However, it's small size requires you to place the cap (once removed) on the tail end in order to comfortably write more than a short note.

The E.D. allows for the cap to be set aside, etc. and is not necessary to comfortably use this larger pen. But it's always larger. Plus, the end on mine does not allow the cap to be placed on the tail end anyway.

So, do you want a pen that tucks away or one that's a bit larger but quicker to task?

N2K, you need to slip that cap under the clip when you're using it so it doesn't get lost!

Good points both of you! Look at you guys and your Big Brains :p I knew I hung out here for a reason.

+1 for the investigator. I have both and it sees 95% of the carry time - great little pen!

Thanks for the input! I was leaning towards the investigator, but had some reservations because of larger hands (not massive, but well into the large range). If that doesn't seem to come up as an issue, Ill take the smallest comfortable option. I figured it would be wise to cover my bases here first before I got to ordering anything!

I would offer this as well, I have Both and would not give either up.
I write with my Investigator everyday BUT have my E.D. right on the outside of my bag in the P.A.L.S. webbing.
IF my bag is on my shoulder, I do not hesitate to grab my E.D. and write (enjoy doing so) with it.
With a larger hand both work great, for those with smaller hands they might find the E.D. on the north side of big.
Considering the dual purpose however.... I like having the E.D. at the ready.

I'm not a little guy, Investigator pen works great for me especially with the cap on the tail while writing.

Ink lasts for a very reasonable amount of time. Not sure how many pages but certainly many many months of notes/lists/forms and so on...

Only thing to mention about these little pens is to be mindful of the spring when changing ink cartridges. It's part of the pen, not the ink and needs to be reinstalled.

Yes and the "spring" is like 1/4 of a spring in size so easily missed if not paying attention.

I can't speak to the ED, not having owned one, but I just love my Investigator Pen. I'll probably buy another as a back-up but I have this pen with me every waking hour. It's so small it just tucks away in my pocket and I forget all about it until I need it and there it is. If it were just another pen I'd probably forget it somewhere or not bother to place it in my pocket every morning. But it's a Hinderer Investigator Pen, so I always know where it is and I always take care to place it securely in my pocket.... It's awesome.

Had extreme, sold em and got investigator. Extreme was awesome, just too big for EDC for me. My only worry with the investigator is it's going to end up in the wash one of these days. I forget I have it on me sometimes and it ends up in the laundry. Awesome pen though. Hands down my favorite.

I have a copper investigator on the way. I'm excited but also apprehensive. What if I really like it?! My OCD is going to override my wallet and force me to acquire one in each finish....

Join the club, I have copper, SS, and titanium. Copper is my favorite.

T

Great! Yeah, looking at them online I think I'm really going to dig having a nice patina on it. I really also like the flame ano and bronze ano, just don't want to drop the money on those just yet since I keep whittling away at my XM paypal fund.. I might have to pick up a stainless though - how noticeable is the weight difference between the copper, Ti, and SS? My only real complaint about things made from Ti is I prefer more heft, a solid feel to my gadgets (so to speak).

Ti, one of the best materials ever, super strength without unnecessary heft. Love it....similar to my love of carbon fiber.

:)

Well you guys finally convinced me. I've been going back and forth for a few weeks now. Pen or no pen, investigator or ED. Stainless, copper or brass. I made up my mind. The brass investigator will be mine! Once they come back in stock. :( Any word on when that might be?
