Extreme Knife Fanboys...

Also read 20x1 vs what you post in those sub forums.

So many questions have already hashed out again and again that the folks who've been there a while get frustrated to see it again.

Don't phrase your question in a passive aggressive or trolling language. When you do that the first impression you give is that of a troll and you may never shake that.

And last never drag fights from other forum on here. All the guys on BladzRNeat may have flamed you to a crisp but that's not something to rehash here.

This is why we can't have fair discussions. Why does my number of posts on a single website have anything to do with this discussion. Do I need to be popular before I can state an opinion. Sorry. I should have have ignored the thousand other threads about "what knife to buy" and started another. I want to have a civilized discussion but it seems some people can't handle that. This is exactly the problem this thread is about.

Ignore the troll bud

Regarding the topic...yeah, there's nothing you can do about fanboys. I'd just ignore em, and check out the knives you like. I like doing research on knives and makers before making purchases, since it allows you to filter through most of the nonsenss and get the facts. Especially useful when you get tk more expensive knives.

Nuts. I was looking for the "I found a great knife that I really like that was made in China, what do you guys think?" thread.

Seriously Daniel, take some more time and read the archives and threads about knives and knife styles you are interested in. Get to know the posters and their style of commentary, and learn which are hysterical fans and hysterical haters. Plenty of both on any side of a just about any knife related issue.

When you see abusive posters that stomp all over other members, just read the thread and move on. Remember, those folks DO NOT CARE about your opinion or presentation of facts, and they are only there to carry the flag for their cause. So what's the point of you participating? You will note a pattern for certain responders, and you will realize they might just have little more in their lives than their knife purchases.

Too much good stuff here on BF to throw out the baby with the bathwater, but I found some time ago that I enjoy reading more than participating as the archives here are fantastic. No other knife related resource is as large. I have found some tremendously helpful reviews and advice here that is nowhere else on the internet.

And plenty of good people, too.

Robert

Tell me about it. I'd be bankrupt if I bought all the knives I wanted before reading people's opinions on them. Fair criticism is among the most important things to pay attention to in an expensive hobby like knife collecting. I'm proud of my collection and am thankful to those who provide feedback and the experience that allows me to make smart decisions. I just hate to see those same people having their concerns drowned out.

Welcome to BF, Daniel.

The fanboiz and haterz in the knife community are actually pretty tame. Check out the high end, gaming computer hardware community .

OP, one thing I can suggest is if you want to talk about CRK, ask your question in the CRK forum. The same with any other brand as possible. You're more likely to get honest feedback, so long as you yourself don't come across sounding like a hater. When you ask questions that beg for thoughtful critical response in the general forum, well, you get what you get. Often that's people posting just to raise their post count.

Galldarn, will you look at that! 593 posts!

Ooops, sorry.
Been there, done that. Don't get me started on gaming fanboys. The knife community is much more civilized and more mature, but there is always room to improve.

Great advice. I've always loved reading forums more so than participating. I just don't have the time to learn who the haters and trolls are. I spend too much time fondling my knives to worry about that ;)

He thinks no one has criticized CRK or Medford knives around here?
He obviously hasn't read many of the thread in General Knife Discussion. :D

He's been here since January! I think that is more than enough time to jump to that conclusion! :D

I haven't been on this site very long, but I've been on many others over many different hobbies and it seems to always follow a pattern. Either someone loves a product and praises it, someone unfairly bashes it and starts a bullshit bandwagon, or someone brings up a fair point and is drowned out by either the extreme haters or the extreme fanboys. It seems so hard to find fair back and forth critique that is reasonable and justified. I've always relied on other peoples' experiences when purchasing a product, and those opinions and criticisms mean quite a bit to me and have saved me from wasting ten's of thousands of dollars on products that I would have come to dislike. I don't mean to criticize this forum, but rather the enthusiast community and some members of it.

So, let me see if I got this. You haven't been here long, but based on your experience with other discussion sites devoted to other hobbies, you are assuming and claiming that the membership are is rife with ranging fanboys.

But you don't mean to criticize.

Do I got you?

True enough.
If I read the threads in General exclusively, I probably would never have bought an Umnumzaan, or certainly would have been more hesitant.
I'm glad I didn't let the opinions of haterz inform my purchasing choice on that one, because it has worked out really well. :)

It even holds an edge, and the frame-lock hasn't folded like a paper-clip.

We can't? And you have figured this out in the long time you have been here, correct?

By the way, with the "I'm new, but you are all fanboys." conclusion jumping, good luck with that "popular" thing.

I didn't mean to criticize anyone in particular nor this forum. If you read the rest of my comments on this thread, you would understand that. I'm merely making an observation on the state of the collecting community as a whole and wish to discuss it.

Now that's some funny stuff. We never did get any evidence to back up that claim did we? And I believe it came from someone who prides themself on

...doing research on knives and makers before making purchases, since it allows you to filter through most of the nonsenss and get the facts.

But not too much time to start a thread trying to start drama....uhhh, ok then.

Ah....not the members of the knife collecting/enthusiast community here....members of the knife collecting/enthusiast community elsewhere.

Making a thread takes less than a minute. 30 mins max if people are making posts to read and reply. Reading a ton or archived info takes hours. It is interesting though, reading the old information, gives you a perspective on aspects that you wouldn't otherwise have thought pertinent.

Fuck this. I'm out. I'm going back to reading and not participating like I have for years. Enjoy your circle-jerk. It seems any reasonable discussion on a sensitive topic is just being a troll. Dear God. With this attitude, good luck accomplishing anything significant. What a welcoming comunity.
