Extremely limited in my choice of blades

You are pushing your luck. Insulting anyone around here is a violation we will not tolerate much of. Insulting a moderator for warning you about it is a good way to find out how fast you can get banned.

Put a cork in it, tough guy
.

lol.:D

Well before I get banned I would just like to say thanks to all the people who gave sound advice and valid information. You included Esav, I took what you have said on board.

I obviously don't fit in here as I'm not willing to back down to the people that hassled me in the first place. I don't intend on saying anything else to them, but alas, it's obvious they will retaliate to my posts since their last post, again receiving favour over me.

It's not right that someone can offend, even using racism, then come back on the next day and say sorry, or that they were drunk - while I receive infractions because I stood up for myself.

But that's the internet I guess.

Jaymz, you have received a lot of good information despite being slightly abrasive. Why not just take the advice and suggestions and move along since none of it seems to be to your liking?

You seem to flip flop around and not really be satisfied with any of the blade suggestions so I suppose in the end, if you live in the "bad part of town" and are fearful for you life, why not just.....move? It's starting to sound like you just want something to complain about. I mean a knife, any knife, is not really going to solve your main problem in that you live in a dangerous area.

I don't really get it dude, sorry and good luck.

Nah mate, I've taken everything everyone has said seriously and considered my options - and there are a lot of options!

I'm swaying more towards the not having the knife option now though.

But if I ever decide what knife to buy, it will be because of all the info you lot have given me.

Hey Jaymz, from a fellow Scot/ Glasgow dweller i think your decision not to carry is the best one.If your on a wind up your not doing much for the Scots reputation. If your serious even considering carrying a fixed and stating it's for sd is just crazy. This is the kind of thing local politicians in Glasgow would love to read. It would help to back up their legislations against knives that will only really impact on genuine knife users and honest citizens.I quote the above as i can't be classed a racist lol.

The mod's here don't want to ban you, but insulting other members and the staff here is an excellent way to piss them off considering they do their amazingly tough job for free. You couldn't pay me enough to moderate a board of this size. They enjoy it, but they won't stand for any abuse. Just chill out, grab a beer, and play with some knives. ;)

Hey mate. Nah I wasn't on a wind up. I really did need some info on the law and what type of knives are better.

What I learned was:

1. No way in hell will I get away with a fixed blade.

2. I would need to make up a fake hobby if I did decide to carry a "legal" blade.

3. Which blades are actually legal here, e.g spyderco UKPK and similar models.

4. It's probably better not to carry a blade as it may get turned around on me.

Although, going back to the point that one is allowed to use reasonable force to defend ones self, e.g using what is in reach; if you were getting attacked, would you wish you had a knife at arm reach?

As mentioned above, a good cane or walking stick is something I would take before I ever whipped out a knife in self defense. Explain it as a "Oh sorry officer, I threw out my back" kind of thing.

lol Maybe I've been mistaken somewhere. I'm not so scared as to carry a walking stick around with me!

But I actually wanted one of those extendable, periscope like batons. I couldn't find any to buy online, so opted for some blade info instead.

I'll need to check out the extemdable, periscope like baton forum!

their illegal to purchase and carry over here. offensive weapon laws just like everything else. ban came in 2001 IRRC, so if you have one you bought pre-ban you arn't breaking any laws keeping it, but carrying it is a big no-no. international shipments containing one are liable to be siezed at customs.

They're also banned as of a couple of years ago.... although I think they would make a much better choice of defensive weapon. There is an Irish website that says they guarantee to get them past UK customs... but you are the importer and would be liable to prosecution if it's caught, plus if you're found with it in public... well, you know the score.
