Factory waved Endura - owned!

Why are so few being made? This looks like a great seller. Why the "limited edition" crap?

Sal has said that he is willing to make more and Ernie Emerson is OK with that. It depends on how this run of 500 sells. So, it's not "limited edition crap" it's just being fiscally prudent.

Got mine day before yesterday. Doubleplusgood! Fit and function flawless. Since I got in early, I regret that they're not serialized. Otherwise, definitely worth the nearly-year-long wait.

Once again, I bow before Mr. Glesser. Kudos also to the others involved, despite the schism at SelfDefenseForum.

I know it was designed with self-defense in mind, but the waved Endura is very utilitarian.
It’s great for everyday work.

I have been putting up siding for the last couple days. When you are on the ladder you just pull it out and it is open – no fumbling to do a thumb open.

The wave also facilitates usage with gloves on. Just pull it out and it is open – you don’t have to worry about the decreased dexterity from the gloves.

I like it.

Wait till you see my 'waved' Civilian...
:p :D :D :D

Seriously. It's the zip-tie version. As quick as it can get, practically free upgrade.

Some of you will .. have .. waited .. too .. long! and you'll never get one :p but I've got mine, Jack.

Great fit & finish. All the edges are softened, even on the Wave, which means it won't be as detructive to pockets as the original Emersons. Very slim lines, Zytel with no liners -- of course the blade is centered, there's no room in the handle for anything but blade. :D

Can you elaborate a little more on this? I'm curious to see how it works...

Thanx for the comments. We always appreciate feedback, good or bad.

We made 500 pieces for SDF because that's where the original idea and support came from. Spyderco did some testing and felt that the modified pieces might not be strong enough (15% reduction in blade sgtrength). As the conversation continued on SDF, we decided to do a short run of the design to see reaction. Making the test run as an exclusive for SDF, we felt would be a good way to reward the source of the "let's do it".

We are getting good response on the piece from ELUs, which is what really counts.

We have had a number of requests from our distributors and dealers (USA & abroad) to make it a regular part of the line, even add models. It is my understanding that Ernest would not object (we'll check with him to be sure) to continuing the collaboration.

If we did continue, we'd have to use the newer version of the Endura and probably a different color handle. We wouldn't want to hurt the collectability of the original collaboraton.

Opinions?

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

That's great news, Sal. As far as handle color for the waved Enduras, I like blue, but any others - tan, black, green - would be fine too.

Sorry to lead you into temptation, but ... it really is a nice, lightweight, sturdy, utilitarian knife ... that saves dummies like us from having to figure out how to open it :D

Don't think you're fooling anyone.
You'll buy this knife before you're done --
an Endura Wave
is what you crave.
Go ahead, it's really fun!

I got mine and glad I did. This run of 500 just may make it a collector edition but I am not making it a drawer queen - I use it almost every day and love the way it opens as I draw it out of my pocket. :)

I LOVE Spyderco knives, but I could never in my lifetime justify spending $80 on an Endura for the mere fact that it has thin, less-than-ergonomic frn handles, and although its not the most important part of the knife, its still important to me. That said, I love waving my Delica with a zip-tie  :D

Hey Guys..
Esav...

Well I can't lie.. I have been bouncing back and forth on the issue for a couple of weeks on whether or not to buy one...

I'm glad I did,, that's a slick knife...
Your post did kind of push me over the edge though..:)

Sal.....

I'd like to see the Wave on a lot of different Spydercos. It's an awesome idea..Which models,, I don't know,, God where do you start....

I've played with the idea of modding my Endura by grinding out/off the Spyder hole..This knife puts that idea to rest...

If you build other models,, I'll surely end up buying them...

I know.

I've been carrying the Endura Wave and the Massad Ayoob. For two very different knives, they have a lot in common, but you have to look for it.

Take the Ayoob, move the opening hole back, and cut a Wave where the hole is now. Move the clip from the pivot to the butt.

I was reading this thread thought new handle colors would be great. Off hand, some 'cool' colors, IMHO, would be yellow (has ther ever been a yellow Endura?), orange (ditto), blue (the same blue as the Forum edition Native), olive drab, grey, and tan.
