Howdy... just returned from a trip back to July of 1989 :D I went thinking I was at this show, but I didn't recognize the setlist. Weird... but the memory is a little fuzzy from back then. Drinking vodka and grapefruit juice tonight.

Morning men. Wow, over 2000 posts! Dan, you got a bunch of chatty fellas in here! But its really because your the friendliest sasquatch on the block.

Day off today, hopefully I can get some work done in the shop. I also have a guy coming to look at my bike collection, sure would be nice to sell a few and some parts too.

Is it a bad sign when you start selling your things to buy more knives? I'm not an addict, I can stop anytime I want, I just don't want to right now!

Morning men! Happy Friday to ya's.Xander enjoy your day off and no it is not a bad thing to sell things off to buy more knives.Trust me I have done a lot of it in the last few years.I think on e-bay alone selling other knives I no longer wanted I made over 5,000 bucks.Enough to pay off all of my collection but momma does not want to believe that. Her thing is always how many knives and guns can you use at once.I always say all of them.

Morning all, hi ho hi ho, off to work I go. :grumpy: At least I don't work with a bunch of hi ho's. :D

Isn't it "I owe, I owe, so off to work I go?"

Big, with guns I always told myself I would never sell one to buy another, and over the last 15 years or so I have only done it twice. I have sold a couple I didn't like, but only twice did I sell guns solely to fund other gun projects. Now I wish I had those guns. Right now as a wannabe knife maker, I still have a hard time letting any knives go and haven't sold any yet. But I plan to change that this year! So be on the lookout for my name in orange letters!

Xander I am with you on the selling guns. Like a dumb ass I sold my S&W model 29 44 mag with an 8 3/4 barrel and a S&W 4586 double action only 45 and a Ruger SP101 357 mag.My old ankle gun back up when I was a cop. I made money on all of them but I wish I still had them. Was back when times were tight and sold a couple to fund Christmas for my kids.Oh well I can't cry over spilled milk. I now have 2 gun safes full of guns and knives not to mention the two huge tubs of production knives. So everything has worked out but I still miss those guns. That 44 mag I killed some nice deer with it with open sights.

Yeah I sold a left hand .22-250 Rem 788 rifle to fund the Magnum Research BFR in .460 s&w. Wasn't a straight across deal, but made it possible. Sold another old .22 rifle for the Leupold scope that is on it now. I don't feel too bad about the 788 because I nor anyone in my family is south paw, but it was a rarer piece. The .22, though, can never have too many of them! That .460 is a MONSTER of a revolver! It scares the piss outta most range folk with their glocks and even makes a super redhawk look anemic! i just cant think of a better big boy toy, though!

Yeah, its friggin awesome to say the least. It is expensive to shoot if you don't reload your own though. I bought a couple boxes of factory ammo for just over $40 for 20. I have mine zero'd at 250 yards and it retains more energy at 250 than a .357 has with light loads at the muzzle! I did find out that if you are going to shoot 125gr. Hollow points you need to load real light, I was having fits trying to get on paper with them, hitting 3 and 4 feet off in all directions when I realized the bullets were fragmenting in flight!

I highly recommend one over the Smith .460, just check youtube for the videos of the scope bases shearing off from the recoil! The BFR uses much larger screw size. Its everything the Python wanted to be and built like a tank without being bulky.

Hey dudes just saying Hi! I need to talk to a bunch of you...

10:30 here, just ate and I'm going back out for a little more work. The last few days have been crazy long but I need to get more caught up.

Note to self - either don't set a tanto tip on your leg or bring a lot more paper towels/band aids to the shop.

Very cool! I have a zillion bootlegs, they are a favorite.

Morning men.Xander if you get a chance post up a pic of your BFR.I was at a gun show a few weeks back and an old guy was selling holsters and had his BFR there in 45/70.I held that gun and all of a sudden I have to have one. Either 460 but I already have a 454 or 45/70.The older guy was shooting 600 grain hot loads that he said was about double the power of a 454. All I could think was this guy was maybe a buck 60.

Daniel be careful!!! Them tanto points will sneak up and bite you deep!We need to make sure you have a complete first aid kit in your shop!

Yeah, Big, it'll be a few days before I can get one. We keep the "family collection" in one centralized location out of city limits, not because of how many we have, but because self defense laws are a little looser in county zoning, if it ever came down to it. and trying to move a safe is a royal p.I.t.a.! Been in this house 3 years now and don't think I am going to move any of the safes here.

Here is a gun saftey reminder for all you folks. Don't give blone women full auto rifles...

Wow scary video!

It's funny no one bothers me here but the bears and the propane guy so I don't worry as much about home protection. When I was back in TX you better be careful, my parents keep a loaded 12 gauge on the mantle. They must have some idiots pull up with no business at their home at least once a year. That's hard to do with a gate and a 400 yard driveway! It's always some thugs who look really out of place. Lol my Dad was in the Special Forces in Vietnam for years, they have no idea...

I'm more worried about the bear, last night I forgot my flashlight and I could not see anything it was so dark. Scary! I think of Bob Loveless at the grinder with his gun belt.

I got the email Xander, cool design. I'm still trying to soak up all the information... :D

Did the dimensioning make sense to you? The drawing didn't show it very well, but it is a straight shank from the head then a long taper, then the tip/duck taper. For the dimensions pick a line diameter and multiply by the fraction in each dimension to get the actual value. That way you keep the same proportions for any size you want, completely scaleable. Only thing is if you were going to do ine over 12" long I would suggest the head be optional.

So it's a smooth taper after the first bit?

I'll wait for Daniel to think on it before I go to other makers. Though I think that it might be too complex for my needs. I'm not likely to do much splicing, I'll have bos'n's to do that for me...(at least on a ship. still a good skill to know for my own boats, when I come to own one.)

It is a straight cylinder from the head to a long taper then to the short taper tip. I don't have the drawing with me now, but it should be dimensioned for length of each tapered section and the straight section. I don't have a CAD program anymore since my laptop was stolen, so I had to do that in MS Paint.
