Evening men.Finaly got my computer back and running good. Shot a doe on New Years day.Used my Daniel Fairly survival knife to gut and quarter her.It worked like a champ!!!

Great to hear from you Sir and great you bagged a deer and cleaned it with a Fairly knife! :D

Mornin! Big, I hate computer problems!

Hey X what's going on man!

I have been offline for the last 2 days due to computer problems. It turns out my Toshiba wasn't coffee-proof. I tripped and spilled coffee 6 feet across the room (pretty much) ruining my almost new laptop, luckily I can probably replace the keyboard and fix it. I got a new HP for super cheap so if I am lucky I'll have 2 computers and be back on for good!

The last couple of days have really sucked but I have to say, New Mexico rules! I got a computer and a bottle of whiskey in the same store!!! LMAO... :D

bigcountry1315,

While you were away, he churned out even more amazing stuff here!

Hopefully, progress was made on his new shop.

No pix of black bears...or snow...or healing machete wounds.

Got our fingers & toes crossed.

Morning men. Anyone looking for a real good wilderness survival book get " Stay Alive survival skills you need" by John McCann. It is one of the best survival books to come out in years!

Morning gents.

I'll have to check out that book. Also, the US Army survival guide is available as a free download on android devices. I also carry pocket guides for native plants that are edible.

I also carry a field guide to edible plants in my back pack. I bought the U.S. Army survival guide years ago. A much better book on survival is the U.S. Air Force survival handbook you can find them on Amazon. Terry Barney AKA Ia Woodsman highly recommended this manual. He was an Air Force survival instructor.

Shop progress - I finally got a great quote on the electric, I'm getting 100 amps ran to the shop! The electrician told me he expects to start late next week so I'm getting closer! I'm getting some wood today to build a divider wall for the grinding room. Once the electric goes in I will be able to insulate it and finish off the walls, probably with plywood. After that I'll be moving in! :D

Cool, I have that book. It is a good one. My Dad has some great books from his Army training as well, interesting stuff.

I'll have to check that one out too, I need to learn more about wild plants in my area. I used to teach botany and plant foraging at a Boy Scout camp when I was in high school but the area I live in now is much different. We used to go out hiking every weekend with books and learned a lot about the area but we got distracted when we found some cool rocks... one thing led to another and that led to knifemaking!

Cool. Glad you got a better quote and it's all coming together. Don't forget to post some WIP pics for us. Plywood scraps can make good shelves too...

...or a playpen in the corner :D

I am really happy about it! I got all my wood for the divider wall today plus some wood for a big workbench, it will be 2' x 8' with 4x4" legs... I bought a 3/4" sheet of plywood for the work surface, I'll do 2 layers thick with liquid nails between the layers. I might put some sheet metal on the top so it is easy to clean.

Great tip on the shelves!

:D

Jealous,I am so freaking jealous. That double thick work bench sounds great.

I used my Fairly Dashi to score the kydex for the sheath for the knife I got from DanCo today.
The knife ain't perfect & the sheath ain't either,but they'll do.

That knife and sheath combo is looking good! Is that Walnut? Very nice!

I scored all the kydex for the 22 kiridashi run with mine, cool! Way better than tin snips or the saw like I used to do.

I used the double 3/4" on my KMG workbench and it is a great workbench construction method. Cheap, simple and strong!

For one of my workbenches I got a 2" thick solid door with formica laminated on it. It has steel legs so I mounted my vise right over one of the legs for when I use it as an anvil for my minis it is as solid as can be! I have a third workbench that need a new top so I may go for the double thick plywood.

I like 'em both, mykel m! Very nice.

The big butt on that knife ( like a couple knives I got from KFU ) means less hand fatigue on longer jobs....at least to me.

Knives are the only time I'm a fan of big butts, however.....
