It is sad. I used to live in Oakland, I know the neighborhood where that school is, super ghetto. CA is one of the states where it is STATE LAW that restricts guns on campus. Also it is a felony to have any knife over 2" blade on campus, but somehow my wife managed to carry an arsenal of large, very sharp knives and tools to school every day. I don't get it, here there is no restriction on blade length for fixed blades, but they cannot be concealed. Chef's (like my wife) carry their knives in a roll, into restricted areas without a problem all the time, yet there is no distinction between a kitchen knife and any other kind of knife.

I carry knives illegally every day, my Minimalist is either on my belt under myshirt or around my neck under my shirt. I'm proud of it and will present them to an officer when I am asked. I carried a gun for years when I was paid to break into houses, somtimes I concealed it illegally but it is what it took to get the job done and maintain maximum safety for me and those with me. I worked in VERY bad ares all too often. I was never cited or arrested once for illegal concealment anytime I have dealt with the police, including just yesterday. Smart, honest responsible people can still have a lot of leeway with weapons carry as long as you know the laws, are honest and forth coming, and pass the attitude test.

More people should carry weapons, know how to use them and be prepared. Especially if you go to school in the ghetto. Mall ninjas not included, they should only be allowed fingernail clippers and rubber pencils.

Daniel and Xander I agree with you. When they make more restrictive laws it makes it easier for the criminals. Honest citizens that follow the law are limited.Michigan was the state that started the car jacking. They made it a 10 year felony and it did not slow them at all. Then Michigan became a shall issue CCW to anyone with out a criminal background. Guess what? No more car jacking.Thugs are afraid that if they attempt to car jack they will get shot.Knife laws are stupid here if a knife has a double edge no matter the blade length it is considered a concealed weapon. Our knife law is a 3 inch blade yet I carry my CS Gunsite folder every where and it has a 5 inch tanto point. I have showed it to the sheriff and State Troopers I know and they were all like that is cool.

Morning men. Getting in a couple hours of overtime today. They don't even ask anyone else anymore, because they know I will take it. That has its good side and bad side. But I spoke with corporate yesterday and they are very pleased with my work, I hope to be moving up in 6 months time! So that means more money to buy more knives! And more tools to make more knives!

The only two tools I really wish I had was a metal cutting bandsaw and a 2x72. Maybe I'll go get a HF portaband this week. Any tool that maximizes my productivity with the little time I get makes this much more fun. Daniel, I am admittedly a bit envious of your shop! One day I will get one dedicated to knife making.

Xander you are like I was at work.I use to take all of the supervisor OT. When on OT you make almost $5o bucks an hour it is hard to say no. My sons first year of college I paid off with just the OT I made that year. Now those days are long gone.Having to learn to live on a budget again. I still make quite a bit being retired.More than most employed officers get in a year. God has truly blessed us!

Daniel your chopping video has me all revved up! My wife says knives to me is like porn to others!!!!

Thanks!!! I hope I get some views over in the Custom section so some people hear about my knives!

Daniel sent you an e-mail brother.

Got it, just wrote you back, Thanks!

I hear you on the overtime, I was a Chef for years and always liked getting those extra hours in. I hope you get promoted soon!

2x72's are really nice but I did well time wise using a cheap 4x36, besides the plunge lines it was as good as a KMG for a lot of work. Filing in plunges is a lot of work though and I hear you on time, when you work a lot every minute counts. Of course a 2x72 will last forever and most any 4x36 will be worn out in the platen area after 50 knives.

A bandsaw would be really nice, I want to get a metal cutting one as soon as I can. I still grind to profile and it is a ton of work and belts. My next big investment will be a dust collector, even a full face mask doesn't cut it when I am grinding all day.

I really want a blast setup too, that would be awesome.

Umm... screw making knives I may see if I can get a job there! :D

I have been out grinding scales down all day and hope to be done tonight.

Xander, I am waiting on some Ti tube for your knife, it should be here in a couple of days. It's going to be cool!

Daniel, I'm suprised you haven't got a portaband yet. The SWAG Offroad stand looks rocksolid for them. So you did find some Ti tube for it, SWEET!!! I'm as excited as my boy is about his new bed! Just don't expect to see a picture of me in a diaper smiling about it...

Still at work, taking a breather right now. My knee is all swollen from lifting a big 50lb bag wrong. It still let's me know when I do something wrong by sending a sever stabbing pain that almost knocks me over. This leg is all messed up, it's the one I almost lost but I have ~95% R.O.M. so any shortcomings I can deal with. Beats the alternative.

Anyways, time to get back to work. Atleast it keeps me from drooling over the pics of my knife like its a pretty lady or somethin!

WTF, no diaper pic! :D

That portaband and the SWAG stand sound sweet, I need to get more caught up and get one.

I hope your leg feels better!

I'll have to get a good photo of your knife when it is glued up, it is turning out nicely.

I am coming close to finishing this weeks batch, I completed shaping the scales on three of them and have 2 more really close. :D

Yep, that's my boy! Just wait Daniel, this is the other side of parenting! It sure is hard to be upset over this though!

Eh, my legs always hurt, its just that it went from about an 8 to a 13! Living in pain everyday is no fun. I took some anti inflamitory meds already, now just to put it up and have a beer.

That knife is turning out awesome, its different from your normal stuff but still instantly recognizable as a DFK original! Just how I wanted it to be. I didn't shop for a maker to make a knife of my design, I watched you come up with unique, creative, functional works of art and that is what I wanted. I can't be disappointed if it isn't exactly how I drew it, because I didn't draw it out first. I just gave you my guidelines and let you do your thing to come up with what you liked and were comfortable with.

I hope this becomes a popular model for you, I know I will never willingly let this one go.

Mad props bro

Daniel just go on the Michigan.gov site and hit corrections. You only need 15 credit hours and starting pay is almost $16 an hour.Put in for Newberry. That way you can teach me about knives and I will teach you about prisoners.

Morning men!

Yep, he's a blue belly! The wife sent me that pic right as I was leaving work last night, by the time I got home he had a bath. Apparently, she "let him" do this. It is finger paint. The really funny part is now he has a slight blue tint, like a corpse! I had to make sure and let day care know what's going on so CPS doesn't come knocking, it looks like bruising now as well.

Yeah he's 2 1/2 now, your boy is a september baby as well, right? Zyler can get muddy with the best of them, I remember the first time he started packing his diaper with mud! No chances were taken with that one, he got hosed off then the wipes and then a bath! Oh well, what fun is it if you don't let them explore a little bit!

Evening guys!

Bigcountry, Thanks! I may take my recyclables and resume to Michigan and do well! :D ...after these knife orders are done. Much appreciated Sir.

Xander that is hilarious! I was wondering what that was, LOL finger paints! The look on his face is awesome.

I am really tired here, it was a long day in the shop! Long days are always good ones in the shop.

I have 26 knives in rotation at the moment, 10 glued up with handles done, 15 profiled and drilled, 1 waiting on hardware.

------> I'll have two knives up for sale tomorrow if my photos go well. They are double chisel (that's regular ground :D lol ) plungeless ground neck knives that are super light, I made three and I kept one I like it so much.

Forgot to mention I bought another Ruger single six 22/22mag stainless and this one has a 5 1/2 inch barrel.I got it used but the guy never fired the 22 mag and was an elderly guy who had it for self protection. I got it for $375 out the door with a lockable case that will hold 8 handguns 2 holsters one a custom leather and the other a camo cordura Uncle Mikes. My other one has a 7 1/2 inch barrel. This makes for 5 Ruger handguns and 4 of them are single actions.I love Rugers they are the DFK of firearms!

Morning everyone!

BigCountry, enjoy the week and that sounds like a great score on the Ruger! I think my Dad had a MKII that we used to shoot, I'll have to ask him.

Nice score on the case too!

Yes and a bunch are really close, I'm trying to get photos at the moment.

No moving for sure, the new shop is just done! :D

Good stuff man...swim lessons, cool. I taught them for years, I think that sort of thing is great for kids.

OK back to photos... I am trying to get some decent photos of my new Fighter, W2 tool steel and .280" thick   It has a hamon and so far I can't get a good photo of it.

I guess I'll try again and if the pics don't work I will be forced to keep it. :p :
