It is sad. I used to live in Oakland, I know the neighborhood where that school is, super ghetto. CA is one of the states where it is STATE LAW that restricts guns on campus. Also it is a felony to have any knife over 2" blade on campus, but somehow my wife managed to carry an arsenal of large, very sharp knives and tools to school every day. I don't get it, here there is no restriction on blade length for fixed blades, but they cannot be concealed. Chef's (like my wife) carry their knives in a roll, into restricted areas without a problem all the time, yet there is no distinction between a kitchen knife and any other kind of knife.
I carry knives illegally every day, my Minimalist is either on my belt under myshirt or around my neck under my shirt. I'm proud of it and will present them to an officer when I am asked. I carried a gun for years when I was paid to break into houses, somtimes I concealed it illegally but it is what it took to get the job done and maintain maximum safety for me and those with me. I worked in VERY bad ares all too often. I was never cited or arrested once for illegal concealment anytime I have dealt with the police, including just yesterday. Smart, honest responsible people can still have a lot of leeway with weapons carry as long as you know the laws, are honest and forth coming, and pass the attitude test.
More people should carry weapons, know how to use them and be prepared. Especially if you go to school in the ghetto. Mall ninjas not included, they should only be allowed fingernail clippers and rubber pencils.
