Xander, I got the Titanium tubing yesterday so it's back on!

I actually have the other rigging knife finished as well as a knife with crypto scales... need pics.

I need to write up my treatise on carbon steels. It seems because of marketing people think 1095 is simply better than 1084, 1075, etc but it just isn't true. Even 1060 gets so hard you have to temper it down. 1095 is probably the cheapest good steel out there and that it is why it is seen on many of the higher end production knives. I'm not bashing on 1095, it is great material and makes for a heirloom quality knife, I just think sometimes people look at the numbers and judge the steels that way.

Hey, good morning Daniel, that is gonna be a cool looking Waki type thing you got going on there! Gonna watch that one for sure! I think I am going to jump in the mix with my own version of a camp sword, gotta order more steel soon, though. Don't know when, my dryer just went out last night, ugh! At least it was the last load.

Carbon steels, they are my favorite! 1080/1084 I think gets a bad rap because it is recommended as a beginner steel due to its ability to be dead soft when annealed (great for files/hacksaw) and a wide latitude for home heat treating like with a fire pit and motor oil! When they are used on better equipment, and stricter standards for HT they can produce very durable blades with great edge holding capabilities. Even when done at home with a fire pit and oil quench it produces very good quality blades. I'll take a known composition 10xx knife over a file knife any day of the week.

That blue camo is good for the urban jungle if your a guy who likes to hide in the shadows, but to blend in with the natives you need grays and browns. Gray t-shirt, brown jacket, blue jeans, shades and a hat and you are now so unnoticeable you're practically invisible! I love big city life as well as the wilderness. I have no problem being solo for weeks on end, but in a city it is a strange sense of being alone while you're surrounded by all this activity. I used to live in San Francisco and would just go on walks at 3am because I couldn't sleep. All sorts of strange things go on, the real wildlife comes out, people and animals. Don't overlook us city dwellers as codependent, naive, unable to survive and food for the wildlife! We have the same skills and abilities as you "mountain folk" just specialized for our setting! C'mon, I want to try turning you guys lose for a 3 day "survival" experiment in the urban jungle, whad'ya think?! :D;)

Cool I want to see that camp sword! I hope you get that dryer fixed for cheap then you need to give Aldo a call.

Of course you can probably buy locally, an advantage of modern society! lol... I wish I lived closer to a large city.

I hear you on the urban jungle, I used to have a store in a mall across from Hot Topic, it was way tougher than living here on the mountainside!
 
Morning y'all. Got my dryer fixed last night for less than $40. Thankfully I could find my DMM to test everything so I didn't have to buy parts I didn't need just because the parts guy says so.

I also had a realization last night. Concerning beer, my magic number is 15. Dollars, that is. Seems that if I drink $15 worth of beer I get the same buzz no matter the quality. 1 really good craft beer, 24oz and 12%, a 6 pack of decent hoppy beer at 5%, or a 24 pack of party beer at 4.2%. All the same level of drunk, because the cheap beer goes through me like a DFK slicer, so the extra alcohol isn't realized. That's it, I'm not taking more than $20 to the bar anymore! We'll see how that goes...

Oh, and I'm super stoked about getting a new knife soon! Can't wait to see it! After I settle up for it I am going to head downtown and pick up some steel for that camp sword, I think I have an idea for it...

$15 rule, I like it! That almost works for me but I usually give up too soon on the cheap beer and turn to cheap liquor!

I like craft beer, most beer these days doesn't do much but make me tired. Then again a super cold Budweiser always kicks ass.

Interesting stuff to me... the beer guys call budweiser, miller and coors "pain beers." Have you ever noticed at one point they immediately go from super tasty to funky when they warm? The funky flavor comes right when your pain receptors are shut down from the warmer temperatures. taste perception is influenced by these receptors so the beer seems to change in flavor.

Lol yes I used to be as into making beer as I am into knifemaking, I can talk beer all day.
 
Pain beer?! I think it more has to do with trying to choke it down! PBR is my party beer, or a good ol' yella belly. I got burnt out on High Life in my "big bottle" stage freshman year of high school, and actually enjoy PBR. In general I am not overly fond of rice beers though. I still love the strong bitterness of a hop-foward type IPA, or the oatmeal/tobacco notes makes-you-want-to-chew-it type traditional Trappist brews. Rochefort 10 (sp?) is on top of my list.

Last night it was Stone Ruination IPA. Great beer. Hey Daniel, that would be an awesome name for your camp sword! The Ruination wakizashi! I think it fits well!

I was at West Point a couple weeks ago. The water was ok, but at $8 a pitcher it just wasn't worth the cost (Bud). I much prefer a nice French Canadian brew like Fin du monde (End of the World) , or Maudite (Damned). You should be able to find it in the States, but it might not be easy. http://www.unibroue.com/
 
Morning y'all. Got some rain coming down pretty good here. Should rain for the next couple days as well, we need it. The past 6 months have been really dry, with January the driest on record for a long time. Well time to get ready for work now.

It was snowing here a moment ago!

Lets hope for rain here, I want the pollen count to go down. I can't hear out of one ear and the other is close.
 
Morning men. Had some ridiculous weather yesterday. Torrential downpour and hail, lightning, flooding, at one point it was raining over an inch an hour! Still raining pretty good right now. Oh wel, we need it here!

Sounds good Xander! A lot of us need the rain, here included. We had the first rain of the year yesterday then it went back to snow. I have a great well but in dry years here some people have to get water delivered!
