That's impressive! The grind on it is tougher that it looks to do in my opinion. That's the wrench! :D

Great looking folder too, what mods did you do? It's nice!

I keep going over my folder design and I think it is looking great, the geometry on the lock should be very good but I am going to have some pros look over it.

speaking of folders... check this custom work... you guys may have heard of him http://mickstridercustomknives.com/ the new model is killer, I keep drooling over it
Thanks Daniel. The grind started off as a more pronounced japanese tanto but it turned into this, not sure what to call it but I like it.
The mods on the Rat-1 are Acid soaked/stonewashed blade and pocket clip . made some G-10 scales . flame ano'ed the stand offs and cursed at it ALOT.
I can't wait for the Fairly folder!! Maybe I should start sending you money now haha
That Strider hawkbill is soooo sick!!!!!!

Kevin, that wrench knife came out nice! Looks like a tanto to me! Next time I'll just bring my own wrench, I have one with a comfy handle to so can't chop it up into a knife!

Daniel, that's why I posted the pic! The pellet gun is crazy fun! I have put 5 rounds through it and am already researching power mods to it. The 13xx series is one of the most popular guns to modify, its a pump gun so no having to carry CO2 with you, no differences in velocity because of temperature, and its pretty darn accurate! First thing is getting rid of the cheap plastic grips and making some nice wood ones. Then its on to valve mods and trigger mods! I'm hoping to get closer to 600fps with 14.3 grain .22 caliber pellets. Stock is about 450fps. The .22 pellets offer much greater energy transfer (knock down power) for hunting, greater kill ratio. Even with rats I want a clean kill, I don't like wounding animals.

Had a nice wet ride to work today, got the nice butt stripe from the rear wheel. Good thing I wear a uniform for work!

WAR line prototype idea.. first rough draft, I have about 20 minutes into this so far. None of the corners are rounded, that takes a while to do but my idea is layed out.

.227" S30V or 154cm?

Ooooo!!

I vote 154cm and possibly O1 or 1095 for carbon. I really like the .227 thickness of my rigger and depending on overall size would be awesome! I'm guessing right around the 8-9" range?

I was digging around my wood cabinet and found a random bar of D2. .125x1.25x9. I've been scribbling on it trying to figure out what I want to make from it. If I had a metal cuttin bandsaw I would rip it down the middle and make a couple small kwaiken. I don't think I want to do that much with the hacksaw and I don't know if cutting it with a 4" cutoff wheel will harden it. Maybe I will try and make a big folder out of it. I don't know. I'm sure I'll get some late night inspiration soon. I seem to be good with that....

What edge thickness should I go for pre HT? This is standard D2, not cpmD2. Maybe a bigger hidden tang? I don't have a clue.

CPM 154CM. Not 154CM... or go with 10V :) Scalloped scales, and it really should have a nice knuckle guard :D

That knife should morph into your trench knife... :D

Man, I get home from work and turn on the news only to find out there were 4 confimed tornados north of here, the closest one just 35 miles north! Also find out a murder happened just 5 blocks from my home. There were 8 murders in the last 3 days. 59 murders for the year now. Can you make a knife with a .45 auto on the handle?!

Gonna go out and hunt some rats again tonight.

Dude, be safe!

I know! I live in a nice and desirable part of town, too. Normally its just the random car broken into every so often, or stuff stolen off a front porch. A murder in my neighbor hood is really surprising. The only bad thing about Stockton (ok, not the only bad thing!) is that every nice part of town is next to not so nice parts of town. Cops are leaving the force here, they went from 400 officers down to just under 300 in a little over a year. The other day they hired two new cadets and it was a big deal on the news! Stockton is about 300K population too.

Sounds good, I have to look more into 10v, the stats look good but it isn't stainless... maybe for a folder or something else though. That would make a nice trench knife.

Wow, just wow! Be safe!

Dude, be safe!

Exactly!

Have a good evening guys! I'm up late, Jade has been keeping my sleep schedule at odd hours. I've been reading about folder designs for hours...

Just came in from rat hunting. Didnt get any tonight but I figured out why, when I first sighted the new pistol in I put just a few shots into the tree across the yard. I can tell pretty quick where I need to move my sights on a pistol, this gun was shooting left. Well the third shot landed where I thought it should after a quick adjustment, but tonight I still was missing the rats in the almond tree.

So I set up a rudimentary pellet trap in the garage and did a grid target to figure out what was going on. At 7 paces I put out two 5 shot strings at two different power levels, turns out this gun is shootng 1/2" high at 7 paces! The rear sight is bottomed out already so I have no more adjustment to bring my grouping down. I guess I am going to to be fabricating a new rear sight for this gun. It was holding nice 3/4" inch groups which ain't bad for offhand, in the dark and a completely factory stock $60.00 gun. The trigger is horrendous right now too. It severly needs work, the pull is close to 5 pounds and isn't very crisp either. Looks like that's next on my list. I think I'll fab up a new trigger and trigger shoe, too. I just love doing stuff like this!

Sounds cool! I can't wait to see the mods. 600 fpm from a 22 would be pretty serious! I think my .177 is 625 and it is pretty serious.

My Dad has on old Benjamin pump, I think it was probably 1954 or earlier... I wonder if he even has it, years ago he lost the slide (blank on name) for it. He told me he got a .22 first because the Benjamin was so powerful his father did not want him to play with it like a toy. I bet it could be fixed up...

I forget the model I own but it is a lot of fun! I saw a cool pop back up target system the other day, that would be nice.

My in-laws are coming in today so that's pretty much my day...

I hope to get a lot of shop time in later this week, I have a bunch of knives nearly finished. The tantos and kiridashis are looking killer, just wait until I get decent photos!

Well I got the pellet pistol sighted in this morning. Dint have time before work to fab a whole new rear sight, that's gonna take some engineering first. But I did manage to modify the stock (terrible) rear sight to bring my shots on target where I wanted them. I also tore the gun down and did a trigger job. Stock was close to 5lbs (very heavy) and not very smooth. It is now at about 22oz, maybe a little less. Clean break, smooth pull and passed the bump test. The factory sear is stamped and they don't clean up the edges, at least its heat treated. The trigger blade is cast pot metal and painted. I polished all mating surfaces to 2000#, lightened th factory spring, which was just jammed against the sear. I made a new spring guide from brass and gave it a polished domed surface to ride the sear.

5 shot groups at 10 paces (320" or 9 yards), off hand, factory iron sights are grouping inside a nickel!

No power mods yet, that's next!

Nice!

You know what you are doing!

One day I want to get a 1911 pistol to work on, grips sound fun for a first project.

Afternoon gang. Just finished a deli sandwhich on fresh bread from a local bakery. Im stuffed!

Been researching power mods for my new pellet pistol, weighing options, crunching numbers, trying to figure out what has the biggest benefit for my uses of this gun. Often times power mods include an increase in chamber volume which means less pressure per stroke, but I don't want to have to pump it 15-18 times every shot. I need to figure out my velocity and ft/lbs E gains at 10 pumps compared to stock valve configuration at 10 pumps. Been using parts of my brain I haven't used in a while, its getting sore!

Nice!

Just checking in and running to the post office to mail out packages. The in-laws are staying with us so we have been very busy... molding sheaths later today though if I can.

Xander, I watched those MIT videos on machining, so far the first 3... wow I have learned a lot! I saw those before and never watched too far but I am glad I did, I think they will help a bunch.

Takin a break from the shop and watching Zyler play in the back yard.

I'm making a new adjustable rear sight for my pellet pistol, the stock one is junk. Its lightweight molded plastic and self tapping screws in a slot to adjust the elevation. My design is rather crude right now, but its a proof of concept. Maybe I will draw it up and get a quote to have it machined. I think its gonna work, though! Just about done with it, im waiting for Zyler to fall asleep for his nap, if he does at all.
