Well had a productive day in the shop, and in general! I had a pair of ancient pruning shears to re-haft today for my F.I.L.'s girlfriend, they belonged to her father and she just can't give them up. I decided to burn the tangs in and then epoxy and pin, once the epoxy dries I'll pein the pins. My shop smells like a campfire from the burning hickory!
Then I started my kiridashi from steel courtesy of DFK. Kevin (flatblackcapo) and I sliced it down the middle at a 45* to make equal 6" kiridashi shapes. I ground the bevel, profiled, and put a screwdriver/pry bar end on the butt. It will have scales of some sort, I'm thinking some .070" carbon fiber/kevlar sandwhich laminate I have, or maybe some nice wood sliced super thin.
Pre HT edge is .025" it still needs some time on the disc grinder to true up the flats, its at 60# now.
I also got a marlin spike made today to go with my rigger! Its a fid more than a spike, but very useful none the less! I even used it a couple times today to put constrictor knots on some split wood.
And here is a bamboo Wa handled paring knife. Its an old Imperial parer that I am rehandling just for fun, but its a decent blade too. The handle is stabilized flooring material scrap. I've used it a bunch and really like it!
All his and still got my workout done before the wife and kid got home at 5! Its been a good day!
