Morning guys!

Nice score Bako! I only recently started using one when I got the mill and wish I had gotten it sooner, drilling goes so much better when doing precision work.

Xander, lol I have a vise that doesn't fit either... I'm going to bolt it to my bench.

Morning Xander!

I've been working on knife design for the last few hours, a 14" chopper is in the plans!

Design, design, design... every once in a while I get a good one! I think this one is.

I consider downsizing the hatchet design or just going with scales, not too sure if I will pursue it further at the moment.

Trying to find a hotel for this weekend in San Francisco, the requirements for it are much higher when taking the wife then they are when I'm just looking for a place to crash when racing, lol! Brandi and I are going to have a nice weekend to ourselves, grandma is gonna watch Zyler. Don't know what's going on, but I got Friday and Saturday off!

Been a while since we have had a weekend for us. We were looking around Santa Cruz as well, but that's Brandi's old stomping grounds, so she wants to go to the SF because she hasn't spent much time there. I used to live there, and have gotten drunk and partied a bunch there after that, so I'm sure I can find a good time for us!

Of course I plan to visit the knife shop, I've bought lots of things there over the years, kinda nice to be able to fondle and play with all the latest Benchmade, ZT, CRK, and many custom/midtech knives.

Daniel, I think you should revisit some of your early chopper designs and refine them a bit. You did some cool stuff a couple years ago that I think you can really liven up with your current style!

Nice! We need to do the same thing, I want to go to Creede, CO just down the road and stay a few days, there is a ton to do outdoors. We collect amethyst and silver laced agate there, fun stuff. San Francisco sounds awesome!

That is what I am doing! :D Refining older designs that are my style all the way. I enjoy exploring designs but for this chopper I want a time tested design.

My very first choppers were heavily based on the USMC (medical corps) Bolo which I have used a ton. This one has a pointy strong tip and is closest to my 'Black Glow .360" Choppers." I have my handle shape refined and this new one has that and choppy blade... aw heck here it is!

I'm not too sure on the grinds I drew in, that was just for kicks. It is all just fun anyways at this point...

14" long, 8.5" Blade, .315" thick, Massive .375" stainless tube fasteners

Sweet!!^^

A weekend getaway without the rug-rat is a huge help to refresh your batteries! Also allows you and the wife to be a couple again, rather than just damage control-referee-police-maid-doctor! Anyways, keep at it bro! Good stuff coming out of 'squatch headquarters these days.

Daniel,That chopper looks sweet!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Evenin' Ladies!

Err, Laddies!

I'm just blasting off the grime after tapping a rich Food Vein about 3000 feet down- Insalata Lacinato (Chiffonade of curly kale with lemon, olive oil and ricotta salata) and Carciofi Ripieni (Artichoke braised in white wine and lemon, stuffed with ground turkey and pine nuts with a little tomato).

I'm headed back up to the surface, and shopping for Frikkie Fixin's. :D

Note to self: don't tell the wife to "Just find a decent looking hotel somewhere north of Market street."

This is what you get. I don't even know what it's going to cost me, but I think it's more than I planned for, let alone how much I hoped for, lol!

Tiffany & Co. is just two blocks away, maybe I can convince her that the room took all my spending money! But williams & sonoma is right there, I think I might pick up some nice Japanese kitchen knives :D

Oh well, if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Back to work now, gotta pay for this somehow

Take off the helmet and dust the food fragments. It sounds like you saw the color!

I can't imagine all the spatula shoveling and food cart loading, man!

Xander,

Don't buy Japanese kitchen knives, man! What're you, one of those creepy fetishists? :D

And yikes! Kimptons ain't cheap hotels. My ex girlfriend was F&B dir. at the Palomar here. Back when my place had no bathtub she used to get me comps once in a while so I could lounge in a big tub on my day off, and I'd see the bills before they got zeroed. OUCH!!!

Oh Xander, San Fran isn't expensive! :D At least compared to ummm.. uhh.. I'll be back.

Sounds awesome, enjoy!

I just made it out of the knife zone, it was hectic. Mortars dropping everywhere, or it could have been Jade throwing stuff... my concentration was not phased during glue up! I laid in the prone position in the mud at the bottom of my foxhole and did glue up despite enemy epoxy advances on my table... it was a hectic battle but I made it through with only a few epoxy marks on my furry forearm. I also did many recon missions looking for tubing that had left... they may have switched sides, I'll never know but I have them now bonded with epoxy and they will always stay loyal! Later I'll flare them until they submit them blast them at high velocity with sand, if they make ot through that an d the grinder without talking i'll consider them loyal. Arrrgggghh!!!

Oh, don't fret Bako, I despise the santoku, which was designed by the japanese for western chefs! I love my classic french chefs patterns, my favorite is my 12" Old Hickory French Chef. I just want that japanese steel, in a french chef pattern.

Daniel, sounds rough. Glad you made it through your mission. I've heard of a specific therapy to deal with the PTSD, it involes rubbing knives on stones to create an edge like no other!

Shit, I had to blast about ten tons of slag out of my way before I saw the color.

The taste of blasting caps in the morning!

I really need to try some Japanese chef's knives as I mostly use American style. I like how food should not stick with the bevel the way it is plus they are super easy to sharpen if made correctly and you have the setup.

Today I had the idea that if I made a chef's knife with a hollow grind with a crazy thick edge, then ground the edge to a near zero bevel for a decent height flat scandi style grind that I would have something that might really work well. I have to try it!

Usually I grind my Chef's knives this wacky sideways way on the platen, it makes for a very subtle full flat grind that cuts like a laser.

My buddy has the opposite of PTSD, unless there are shell casings knee high it is all good, lol. He once told me he was hiding behind a propane tank when a mortar hit it but it was no big deal, it just blew up. he was totally serious, lol.

Go Daniel GO!!!!!!!!!
:D I have fun...

Keep your (G10) powder dry, and watch your Six(-ty grit)!

Yep! :D
