Good morning guys!

Not a lot going on here but knives! :D I'm getting close on the new batch with Kydex molded yesterday.

For the afternoon and evening I busted out the flexshaft and started cleaning up the inside of the new Ti Keychain Tools and Backpackers. I did it with a carbide burr... no more files there! That was the first time I used the flexshaft for knives, I got it for carving stone. Over 100 items were worked on... my hands still feel funny! :D

Thanks!
Today is firewood day again! It's been a cold Spring plus it's always nice having extra firewood. Then out to the shop to make some bat houses.

Hand yoga, I pictured something totally different! Morning!

Gonna finish up a pair of razor scales today before work. I was going to HT that marlingspike, but I need to get more oil and new quench tank. Also I will put the final few coats on the pricker handle today. Its looking really good!

I'm sticking with canola oil since I use 1080/1084 exclusively. It works well for me. I think I might just pick up a small "popcorn tin" for my quench tank. I see a guy every weekend at the flea market selling them for like $2, it has a lid and is laquered inside to help prevent any rust issues, but the oil will help. I usually keep a #10 can for quenching small stuff as well.

One of these days I will get a proper HT oven and some engineered oil so I can venture into other steels.

tractor beam, sweet!

Xander that sounds great on the setup. You really can't beat the simplicity and performance of 1084, also canola smoke and fumes are way nicer than those from engineered oil. I might go to all air hardening steels eventually.

Yeah, I love 1084. It performs solidly and is extremely predictable in HT. I love mid range alloys, 1084, 14c28n, 154cm, AUS8, 440C, 1095, etc. They all perform well, sharpen easily, and hold a reasonable edge with proper geometry. Sure the super alloys are great, but when I'm in the field and I need to sharpen my knife I need to do it easily and quickly.

I just got a tri-tip going for Chicago beef sandwiches later. :D

I put in a ton of grinder time today... look out! Ti Keychain Tools are going nicely.

Garg.

Going to try and force myself to learn Inkscape tonight so I can get a design off to Waterjet.

By the way- it is official- I now have a new hobby.

En route are a 0-120V 1A power supply, a container of Multi-Etch, 3' of Niobium wire for jigs, plastic mesh, and stainless foil.

When I get home, ordering G10/CF, knifemaker-grade Ti for liners, and chainring bolts.
