Fake PM2

Hello all, this is my first post as I'm am just staring to get into collecting knives. I just ordered a PM2 from Cabelas and am starting to think its fake. To begin, there are no bar codes on the end of the box. In regards to the knife, the edge isn't very sharp. I was expecting something crazy sharp. Next, the lanyard hole edges are very sharp. Aren't these supposed to me machined? Also, the stippling on the thumb grip are straight up and down, not angled. And lastly, the two of the three screw heads on the clip are slightly stripped and one of them looks cross threaded. Additionally, the paperwork is glossy. Is it supposed to be? What do you all think?

Welcome to the forums.
Pictures in these kinds of situations really do help. You can upload them to Imgur.
I highly doubt Cabelas would sell a counterfeit knife, they more than likely get them directly from Spyderco and not a third party wholesaler. THe only plausible scenario I can think of (without actually seeing what you are vaguely describing) is that someone may have bought a legitimate knife and exchanged the contents with a counterfeit item and taken it back for a refund. The sales people at Cabelas are usually not too knowledgeable in what to look for regarding a counterfeit item.

THe lanyard holes are press fit into place (slightly flares at the ends).

Welcome to the forum! Some pics would help but I would think that coming from cabelas it is most likely a real one. TFS

pictures are coming. One other thing...the skeletonized frame inside should have 2 holes cut out on one side, correct? On my knife there is only one hole on each side.

Sorry, pasted the images incorrectly on the last reply.

Yeah, I agree. And isn't the cutout area for the compression lock supposed to have a smoother curve to it?

I've never seen a fake one before, but comparing it to the one in my hand, I'd return that immediately. The etchings on the blade are wrong. Sal's A and L should not be separated, and the 'OLO' in Colorado should not be touching.

Here's a quick phone picture. Note where the grind meets the spydie hole.

Sorry about the quality - too lazy to get the tripod out, lol.

And there should be a small notch on each liner, on the bottom side.

Riiight about……here.

But yeah, sorry about your luck. That's a bummer.

FYI, I think I heard that one of the forum sponsors had them for like $105, shipped.

I figured something was up. Thought it was pretty poor quality for $145.

Yes! That knife looks like crap. Even if it wasn't a fake, I would return it.

Sorry to see this happen. I hope Cabela's treats you right.

That is most definitely a fake. Have you contacted Cabelas and Spyderco. They need to be aware of this I believe.
