Fake PM2

Ugh! Figured I'd be okay ordering it from Cabelas.

Usually you're fine. This has actually happened recently, can't remember where the thread is, but big box store was notified that they had a fake and they took care of it.

So I had Cabelas order me another one, except this time I ordered the digital camo. It arrived today and is 100% legit. It's amazing how bad the first one was. This one is perfection.

Glad to hear all worked out!! Kudos to Cabelas even though they seem to get bashed quite often.. John :)

Take this with coarse grains of salt since I'm no expert in running a multi-million dollar knife company, but if this somehow happens again within the same timespan since the last fake Cabel's PM2, I would strongly (and with respect) recommend Sal & the Spyderco crew take a deeper look into Cabela's operation.

This Cabela's fake seems extra disturbing to me since the box and letter are so obviously fake as well - to me it seems less likely that this knife was swapped out by a previous buyer like what supposedly happened the last Cabela's thread...If this knife was returned by a sneaky customer, I have some trouble imagining that the return would be accepted with a fake box that doesn't look exactly like all the other real Spyderco boxes that must pass through their hands, as well as any other markings or stickers that Cabela's puts on their merchandise.

Yup, this seems pretty suspicious.

Thinking of how small of a percentage we educated consumers are in comparison to the thousands of people who simply buy knives without the same level of consideration or knowledge, I can imagine many people wouldn't even consider that their not-as-nice-as-expected-fresh-from-cabela's-PM2 is a fake. That makes this kind of scam a potential cash cow for any large-scale retailer. And to make it worse, instead of seeing true Spyderco quality, since they unknowingly got a fake, these unaware customers could just decide that Spyderco knives aren't all that great, possibly preventing them from ever trying the brand again or even taking a stronger negative stance....either way I can't imagine this sort of thing being good for the brand.

But yeah, like a said, I don't run a hugely successful knife company, so this is just my $.02

This will make you cry! I almost bought a fake and found this doing research.

Sorry guys for the error! but it was sad thing to behold. On the bright side of these fakes is that you become aware of the subtleties of the real McCoy and appreciate the work of Spyderco.
