ran into this guy crawling south today on the trail but he wasn't very woolly, if you believe in that prediction stuff

Wow, rain AND lightning, all in one year!!! And it was in the 80's today. Tomorrow it will be cooler, finally. Long summer.

sorry - was out and about for most of the day, then built a drop tube holder for a buddy who loads BP 45/70 cartridges for his Sharps.
we had a blustery, misty day until sunset when it became freezing rain. about 1/2 hour ago it switched over to snow.

I think it hit 60 here today. Was cloudy all day, but no rain, until a bit ago.

we maxed out at 52 -- at 11 AM.
steady drop after that.
wore my M51 pants -- was perfect.
need to make up a batch of proofing wax to recoat my oilskin shirt, though.

Mind sharing your recipe? I’ve been contemplating either making my own waterproofing wax or just buying some sno seal to coat a couple of projects I’ve got on the go.

I've actually been doing that research myself.

I love sno seal on leather - not sure how well it works on fabric.

leaning towards starting simple - 4 parts beeswax, 2 parts pure tung oil (because I have it on hand), and 1 part orange oil as a thinner for the tung.
going to test it on a scrap of cloth - see how fast that dries and how solid it gets, then adjust.

Yeah I’ve read a few things online saying sno seal can be a cheap alternative for waterproofing canvas. Wouldn't use it on clothing, due to the petroleum in it, but I’m just treating some small bags and pouches.

Of course, I waited too long to start this project, and now most of the farmers markets are closed for the season, so I’m gonna have to source out a cheap supply of beeswax from somewhere else. Let me know how yours turns out.

I'm a huge fan of sno-seal. I even have a couple jars on the ship.
It works ok on fabric as an oilskin treatment, and the solvent is pretty volatile and disappears quickly (by smell, anyway).

I picked up an oilskin jacket a couple years back and a jar of reproof from Outback Trading Co. We get so little weather it sits in the closet more than I use it by far. My jar is still untouched!
