Fallkniven A1 overview

Fallkniven will be bringing out a new version of the A1,S1 and F1 soon. They call them the professional series. All will offer their excellent cobalt steel, improved sheaths and be slightly thicker. Cost, as one would expect will be more. Vg-10 models will still be offered. Fallkniven will now offer a lifetime warranty too.

Yeah I'm really excited. Especially about about CoS Lam Cobalt steel.
It's has the same alloying elements just more of them, especially Cobalt. Might be my new favorite steel if the reports are true about the laser sharpness achieved from stropping.

I'll probably get the A1 and F1 in the Cos steel. The only thing that gives me pause is..Do they really need to be thicker. The current A1 is about .24 of an inch thick, yet still cuts well. I like the A1 because it feels light in hand. I'm not sure Fallkniven needs to add unnecessary weight to the A1.

Great knife. A tad large for my purposes, but my F1 fits that role. VG-10 is great steel IMHO. Buddy and I skinned a black bear one time, and the VG-10 stood up just as well as his Carbon V blade. A bit harder to sharpen than high carbon steel, but worth the trade-off IMHO.

I feel ya man, but Fallkniven seems to have a real stroke for genius when it comes to knives so I'll give them the benift of the doubt till its in my hands.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I still need to go hunting with my A1 for sure.

Wow, really?? This is the first I've heard of this! I've been waiting for something new from Fallkniven too. When are these versions expected to come out? I'm excited now.

Up front, I kinda agree with DJC72....I think the A1 is plenty thick enough. But, we'll have to wait and see I guess eh?

DeadboxHero, I'd have to agree with you. Fallkniven knows how to make a quality blade that perform. I saw the knives in their new 2016-2017 catalog. The pro series also have metal bolsters!

Should be out this October 2015.

Expect high pricing.

It's going to include a dry box and a DC4.

CoS Lam is also an expensive steel too.

Going to have to sell some knives I suppose.

Another photo of my A1 just for the hell of it. Used, abused, and still begging for more.

Love seeing knives get used and not stored.

Here's my A1 while at Wildfire camp.

I even shaved my ratty facial hair off with it.

Refined edge geometry what does that really mean.....less or more of a convexed blade grind suited to assist the edge.......great feel good words by Fallkniven but no explanation as to how this is accomplished.....with blades going this thick I hope something would be done.

Great question, are you ready for the answer? I dont know what that means either. I just know the Fallkniven A1 has a great heat treatment, great steel, and can be Sharpnened to the geometry of desired performance.

A stock knife won't shave facial hair.

If it's anything like the edge that came on the kolt (ICE-improved convex edge), it will be damn sharp. My volcano came pretty damn sharp as well, tho 7mm is more than is necessary. It's not meant for slicing cold cuts.or veges tho. Lam CoS steel has impressed the hell out of me and when stropped my arm hair seems to fall out. Tough as well trees, deer ribcage, batoning keeps a great edge and is relatively easy to bring back to hair scaring levels.

I have a Sk6 but it's too beautiful to use. I wonder what steel Cos edge retention is similar to.

I have no qualms using the volcano, nor would I with the krut. It's made to be in your hand doing tasks. They are gorgeous knives and only look better broken in with your hands oils joining the wood grain. If I owned a camera I'd post pics for u.
