That doctor's knife almost looks like it's horn and not bone. Absolutely beautiful regardless. How about a shot of the pile/reverse side?

Thanks to Jeff and Redsparrow:thumbsup:

They're not too bad are they? ;)The Beaver Tail was one of my early GECs nice thick scale slabs and build quality not bad but not as good as current offerings. The locking Lag gets a lot of use, you'd think a thin handle would be uncomfortable but no, fits inside the hand very snugly and it too has thick slabs that make for comfort. Great food knife.

Better remember to take them out of that iron frying pan though.....

Stuart, that really does look like horn though. The reason I think this is the way the scale material behaves around the pins, a kind of blistering or halo effect is very typical of horn. Not a rebuke of any kind as it's a very fine knife indeed, but my money's on horn there.

Regards, Will

Sorry for the delayed picture of the pile side, Aaron; I had to wait until a clear day. The tang pattern number, 6185, indicates that it is bone, but it certainly is different.

Either that knife as been re-handled or they put the wrong tang stamped blade in it at the factory but just as Will said, it's most certainly horn!
Still a Very Sweet knife!!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, Dave and Will Power Will Power . Yes, I agree that is is very horn-ish (horney?), but it is a bit of mystery to me. There is the translucent glow of horn and not the pore/grain of bone. It is one of the knives that I got inherited from my stepfather and I don't know its history. I'd like to think that he picked it up as a re-handled knife at one of the many knife shows (or flea markets) he used to visit. Can't imagine Case making that kind of error. Anywho, it's one of the prettiest "smooth bone handled" knives that I have.

That green is fantastic! You would get a lot of interest if you were to put it on sale or trade, great example:cool::)
