Favorite 300.

300, in the first picture with the shotgun shells, is that a 301?
Great pics.

I don't mean to steal 300's thunder, but, since he has not responded, the answer is yes, it is the first variation of the Schrade manufactured 301; the only slippie with grooved bolsters.

Because I love the big honkin folders, I prefer my 317, its big and a 1st version.

Hi All, I have one of these too, what makes a "1st version" different from any of the others that followed?....thanks.

Akula, Welcome. What makes Fritz knife above a first version is the stamping. The stamp on the 1st versions facing outside, looking at the shield it reads, 'Buck USA' on the main blade (clip). Then on the back inside of that blade ( refered to as the pile side) its stamped with the model number . In this case 317 which is what Fritz is trying to show us in the above photo. This is the only difference in the two . All else is otherwise the same . Have you used you 317 ? DM

300, a lot of those knives look like the 303, would that be your favorite?
Great show, I really enjoy seeing these Buck pocket knives!!

Tin, thank you very much for the answer, that knife is really interesting to me and I wasn't sure which model it was.
Thank you

Thanks DM, good explanation. I just like the oldies, the older the better for me. I actually was showing that particular pic because it is the only one I have showing open where I didnt cut off the tip in the photo:o. Here are the pics of the stamps.

Couldn't stand it any longer, but this is the last posting, I've run thru the easy photos. 300
301s Bone Scales...notice the placement of the sheepsfoot blades, the left knives are brass linered, two spring , the middle and right is all SS, three springed. I consider the second knife from the right as one of my top three 300 models. If I could talk Buck designers into making it with just two blades and the second blade be a warcliff blade...ooh wee I bet they would sell.

307s, all Camillus made.

Yes this is a Canoe, but a Made In USA Buck Canoe, Ivory scales and fancy steels, was for AGRussell. Two other fancy versions made. Icould afford this one because it was a second. See the split in the ivory by the rivet.

This is no-BS, you too can take photos as good as or better than these.....Look how PlumberD has improved over a couple of years.
Search this forum for photography methods and try some of them and then you do a photo thread. My case is rested.

Thank You DM for the explanation, No, I haven't used it yet and I don't think anyone else has either. My 317 looks almost like new for as old as it is. The stamp on mine shows (BUCK 317 USA) I'm guessing early seventies model. I use my CS 110 and a 60's(?) 119 that appears to be 440c.

Your welcome. That stamp on your 317 went all the way to mid 80's. I have some of those too. Hang, on to it as those are pricey now. I'd say your correct on the steel of your 119 being 440C. You got some nice knives. DM
