Favorite all around Scotch

Sometimes scotch especially do not get better after certain year and may even get worse. Like with many of the ma8n brands I prefer the 25 year to the 30 year. This goes for Macallan, Highland Park and Talisker.

To elaborate slightly on my previous answer, my current favorites are:

  • Lagavulin 16YO. It's just the best there is, or at least the best within reason.
  • Laphroaig 18YO. I think it benefits from the extra 8 years.
  • Laphroaig 10YO. It's really good too, and a lot cheaper.
  • Aberlour A'bunadh. A cask strength sherry bomb. I like it neat.
  • Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or. Finished in Saurtenes casks. Really nice after dinner drink.

These two were both very good. Not easy to find (both limited editions), and unfortunately, I've finished off both bottles. :( The nose on that particular Cairdeas was unbelievable!!!

For general everyday sipping I like the MacAllan 18, though the 12 is much easier on the wallet and pretty good too.

The Macallan no 1 is good as well and easier on the wallet.

For my favorite Scotch, I would have to say it is a tie between the Tape & the Brite as they are both pretty handy, I just don't drink either of them. ;) Lagavulin 16 is my favorite of the drinkable Scotch though. :)

What did u think of the Highland Park ?

It was very, VERY good! :D WAY too easy to drink!!! Extremely smooth with NO bite whatsoever, despite the alcohol content. Best bottle I've ever had, but also the most expensive too.

Nose was very fruity with a hint of pepper/spice. Had a light leathery, earthy, almost tobacco taste, with strong almonds, vanilla, and honey on the finish. Didn't linger though. A few drops of water really opened it up, and it was very fruity/floral on the nose. The water tended to mute the peatiness a bit though, and softened the finish too, so I usually drank it straight. Would have been really easy to finish this bottle quickly, but I limited myself. :D

I finished another 24 year Highland Park by Gordon Macphail and it is incredibly smooth.

Laphroaig is my go to, if I could only buy from one distillery then that'd be the one. Love them all, 10 and 18 year, Quarter Cask, Triple Wood.

This thread is making me thirsty.

Another favourite (a bit cheaper, so I can drink more) is the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. This is my last bottle of the last batch; I need to go shopping!

I got it at davidsons. They have it cheaper than anywhere else

Thanks! I was guessing that might be the case. I'll have to swing by tomorrow evening on my way home from work.

Good question, depends on how the day goes. Probably between 6-7. I'd be coming from the Park Meadows area.
