Favorite Animal to Hunt

Partridge with a .22 and moose, but moose are dying out and replaced by numerous deer. Deer will do as a substitute, but moose is much more prefered

I always enjoyed bowfishing for sharks in open water, but rats in the almond tree with the .22 pellet pistol at night is great fun. No lights, no night vision, no bait, just stalk and shoot.

"There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter."

- Ernest Hemingway

Rabbit and dove would be first for me. Outside with friends, even if you don't get to shoot much you've had a good day.

Squirrels. Gives me a chance to stretch the legs on my dwindling .22 collection. Also helps hone your observation, stalking and shooting skills. After that is hogs, all shapes and sizes. Wily, fast and damned mean if they want to be. Even had a sow bite a buddy of mine AFTER I killed her!

Sadly there are few deer around and fewer still worth shooting. I'd like to try it though.

I like it when a nice deer just commits suicide. Yes, of course I have a knife.

rabbit has been my favorite for a few years now.
I "protect" many of the neighborhood gardens each year from these maurading and violent predators !!

Wild Pheasants like we used to have in Northern & Central Illinois. They are gone now, so.............Whitetails (almost said turkeys and just about said pronghorns and nearly said squirrels). Made a lucky shot first day of our deer firearms season and made some meat! Now gotta help mamma fill her tag! Back to Vermillion County next weekend! Muzzleloader deer in the Shawnee National Forest the week after!

Around here (West Central Illinois) pheasants are slowly on the rise, as are quail. I have seen many in the past couple years.

Squirrel hunting is pretty fun, and much more mobile than deer hunting. It is probably my current favorite.

Mobility? One of the things I love about Deer Hunting in the National forests (Shawnee, Black Hills, Manistee, Beaverhead) is the ability to be mobile, walk all day (or days) if you want to! Love gettin' lost, (and damned good at it)! I am not sure when it was that American deer hunters Became a tribe of Tree Climbers, Stump Sitters and blind builders, but that is not my style of deer hunting! Glad to hear about your pheasants & quail on the rebound! Keep shootin' and trappin' those predators! Used to shoot a few Bobwhites in Fulton County before the deer hunters leased up everything.

A bugling bull in the mountains, gobbling tom in the spring, flock of ducks dropping into decoys, cackling rooster flushed by my lab, a big whitetail heading under my stand - each one is a favorite and hard to pick just one.

I enjoy hunting aoudad sheep, hogs, deer, and turkey's the most. I like taking my kiddo's way more than shooting them myself. Here are a few pics from recent years.

Me and a partner after a hog killing run. He broke his .22 rifle in the process of trying to kill a couple from a trap we ran.

My oldest son with his first big buck. I was so proud of him. He made a 235yd shot on him for the kill.

If I had to chose a favorite animal to hunt it would be the aoudad sheep. I find them in some really rugged country. It's all spot and stalk hunting. You have to be conscious of where you shoot them, so they don't end up rolling into a big inaccessible canyon. Here's what I mean.

I do get lucky every now and then, and catch them in a place I can drive my atv or truck to. I'm thankful for those lucky days.

My daughter is a big time turkey hunter as well. She loves hearing the toms gobble and come running to daddy's love sick hen calls.
