Favorite Animal to Hunt

Dove hunting is really fun, you get to go out with a group of people, you don't sit in a blind all morning, and it takes a bit of practice.

I've been deer/hog hunting but it is really easy to sit in a blind and line up a shot. When you are in the outdoors with a group of friends talking have dove flying over you head left and right and you have to pick one out to lead and shoot, nothing else compares.

Anytime spent in the woods learning and making memories, out smarting whitetail is the animal I like to hunt the most. Thick woods and their will to live makes them very exciting. I leave game cameras out all year to make the anticipation of the season and what we might see at the camp all the more interesting.

What did you take the Cape Buffalo with? Caliber, load and bullet weight. Also, have you ever got close enough to a trophy ram to take it with a bow? Nice trophies Joe! :)

I have shot 3 Buff with a 375 HH loaded with a 300 grain Barnes X

I have shot 2 with a 470 nitro Double Rifle shooting 500 grain Woodleighs softs and solids

As for bow range on the Rams. When I bow hunt I use a recurve and that limits me to relatively short ranges. To be honest I have never gotten with in what I would consider bow range (for me) on a trophy Ram. But I have never taken a bow on a sheep hunt so I have never tried. I have gotten with in bow range of sheep I did not want to kill thou. I limit my bow hunting to Whitetail mostly although I have taken many hogs etc.

I would like to go back and chase Buff and rams with my recurve and maybe someday I will but with 4 kids its getting harder

Thanks for the kind words :)

Whitetail, in the snow. Tracking all day as it falls all around. Best hunting memories I have. An elephant hunt is my dream hunt. The days of W.D.M Bell are gone but, a hunt for an elder, or pest elephant would be great.

Joe, that Marco Polo is outstanding

Thank you

He is a stud :)

Joe - that is a mid-blowing specimen!

And best of luck in the quest for a ram with a recurve - it's on my life list as well.

Thanks

But this year instead of a hunt taking kids to Disney :)

These days I'm quite content with chasing local Whitetail with a recurve

I've always had a love affair with Whitetails and recurves and I'm fortunate that the price is only the oat of a license and property taxes :)

All PA deer

I love hunting squirrels on a warm and sunny fall day in Michigan. Too bad I left there for Cali 20+ years ago...

I haven't hunted in about 8 years, but duck hunting was were I started, and my memories of duck hunting with my Grandpa are some of my fondest memories. I would love to get back into duck hunting, but any hunting trip is a great experience and I look forward to getting back into it when I can.

Whitetail for me. Every time I take another I swear it'll be my last, but it's strangely addictive after a while, especially if you live in a very rural area, and own property. There's a ton of them here, and aren't too much of a challenge to take.

i've hunted Boar, Bear, roe buck and birds of all types
my favorite by far is boar...the e.european type that you guys don't get to see in the US

bear is exciting too, but i value my life somewhat and can't say the hunts i've been on have been all that much "fun"

roe buck is exciting because it won't let you get close enough to it, so you either have to be very good at getting close or a very good shot from afar.

birds are ok too, but not even close compared to the stuff above.

my newest hunt will be Red Stag in Oct...we shall see how lucky i get

no pic of the bear but it wasn't a "monster"...and i was too busy being on the lookout for other bears in pitch black darkness while my guides gutted it, to worry about taking pics of it

the boar pictured is my biggest 'till now, although i've got my eye on an even bigger one in a couple weekends
25cm tusks "Gold Trophy" - 275+ kilos
