Favorite bad seed

lotsas folks dont like jaxurman but i did several trades, spoke with him on the phone a few times, he helped me get my 1st emerson custom, never did me wrong at all, of course YMMV lol.

He did Bladeforums wrong, and since you're a member that's doing you wrong. $600 a year for a dealer membership (then) and I guess he was active two years -- how many times have you thought the forum is running slow as molasses tonight, it'd sure be nice if we could afford to upgrade the hardware so the forum would run better?

so was he a dealer?

i have no idea if he was/wasnt, but anyway he's been gone what, 5 yrs or so now? because he's been gone so long i would have to say that when the forum is running slow him being the cause of it hasnt ever occurred to me, even if he had paid the dealer fee any software his $$ had paid for would be obsolete by now anyway.

like i said a lotta folks didnt like him, and YMMV,

Yes, Jack Alvarez aka jaxurman was a stealth dealer (that's what he was banned for after we finally saw through all his lying stories) and yes, it's reasonable to give him a pass on current problems after all this time (though you were around then). The point is anybody who cheats Bladeforums cheats all of us.

oh i agree, he was in the wrong, all i am saying is he is my fav bad seed, of course he's probably the only bad seed i have had any dealings with, i suppose i have been lucky in that way, i, personally havent been burned/ripped off, yet, knock on wood, and its too bad about jack imho, he knows or knew a lot about some brands of custom knives, and would have had a lot to contribute had he chosen to, he seemed to think a lotta the guys had it in for him, for whatever reason, and he just wouldnt do that, but once ya got to know him he wasnt a bad guy, or wasnt as bad as some anyway.

Jack is definitely still out there selling knives. If you look, you will find him at some of the knife shows. I always liked Jack, but many here didn't. It was wrong for him to play the part of someone selling his personal knives when he was actually a dealer, and I think he figured it was cool to be putting one over on the forum administrators.

no, i dont think he thought that, his deal was, in his mind, he did not consider himself a dealer, only a hobbyist, in his mind a dealer was someone who either supported themselves or had a major % of his income coming from dealing in knives, and he (his family?) owned several restaurants in canton ohio that he managed, which was his major source of income, so even though he owned over $100,000 of knives he just didnt consider himself a dealer, be it right or be it wrong, thats how he thought, and i dont remember the exact details of went happened with him but IIRC it went a little past whether he was a dealer or not, if i could still access search i would look and see exactly what the events were, its been so long i simply dont recall exact details, but IIRC dealing was only part of the equation, & IIRC a lot of the knives he sold were his, he supposedly did a lotta trading/buying/selling at shows and on the net, i dont think he was an actual dealer like say TAD, or NGK, someone like that, now if i'm wrong post a link or something and tell me the story, i'm all ears, like i said its been a few yrs and believe it or not i have had quite a lot go on in my life since then and jack being a dealer or not isnt one of the more important issues in my life lol.

and hey i'm not defending him, he's perfectly able to do that himself given a chance, i'm just saying how i remember things.

and he wasnt the first, nor last person to to try and dodge dealer fees on this forum, i would wager that more than one person is doing the exact same thing now, not that its right to do that, its just human nature to try and avoid paying certain fees/taxes/etc,

and who knows if he told me the whole story,

Jack sells knives at knife shows, and has for years. He knew darn well he was a dealer, since that is something that he has been known to call himself.
