Not sure that these are my favourite camp things but they are definitely camp....:D

Hey pitdog~ are you on the right or left???? Even though I may be funny, you are one sick puppy pitdog:D
I think someone needs to make a poster out of this to post on the thread from a few weeks ago.

Drinking brown candy and playing rummy 500
Burnination
Whittling
Reading
Shooting the s*** with my friends into the wee hours

I usually try to plan my camping trips where I have at least one day to just sit around the camp and do absolutely nothing. I run back and forth all day at work, so I just need that time, after I get camp set and dinner cooked, to do nothing at all. After that, fishing, hiking, pretending like I know how to identify constellations, playing with the fire, annoying people with my guitar, or doing something with a knife...usually whittling...

Reading some Teddy Roosevelt or Peter Capstick safari yarns, whittling little toys or figures, IDing animal sign.

Later at night, drinking whiskey punch and singing rebel songs by the fire.

hushnel,

I don't know.... I think bagpipes might be able to top a banjo for annoying! [Although I like bagpipe music in short doses.]

Favorite things to do while camping:

It depends on the time of the year, but since we are in summer I will say:

  • Drinking beer
  • Fishing
  • Drinking beer
  • Getting wood
  • Drinking beer
  • Playing with fire
  • Drinking beer
  • Laying in the hammock (while drinking beer)
  • Gettin' Some!

In that order. I like to hike and geocache and all that stuff too, but not generally when I am camping. Camping is for chillin'.

For me, it's

* Getting away from work
* Getting away from telephones
* Spending some time with my wife and kids
* Taking pictures
* Hiking
* Relaxing
* Eating camp food...which is never good when I make it, but always a memory!

I love playing with fire.

After that I drink scotch, smoke a cigar and play cribbage.

Hang out with the kids;
Set up tent
Whittle marshmellow sticks
tell spooky stories
Smores YUM!!
More of a cold Dr Pepper person myself
Practicing my Dutch Oven cooking
Stare into fire (what is it that is so mezmerizing?)

My twins are 10 and my son is 13. Trying to enjoy them as much as possible for a few more years.

Whittling, practice knots, make up stories, brand wood with wire heated on the campfire, make my hiking staff "better" or different in some way, make live catch versions of traps and tripwires for practice.

I'm with dougo83. I like to hike around in the day and take pictures, prepare the firewood, and make fire. Some days I just like to take it easy. Maybe plan 2 small walks during the day, but for the most part just hang around the camp and campfire. During those lazy camp days I like to build a fire for nothing more than to cook. Nothing beats cooking on the campfire. When I'm engaged in activity cooking during the day usually means a little camp stove.
