Favorite cheap but beloved gear?

My old Ruger standard model. The first gun I bought, was 39.95, and for near 45 years has been a travel companion, plinker, and game getter. My kids learned to shoot on it, and three out of four of my grandkids learned to shoot on it. At about the 40 year mark, it started to have light primer strikes and fail to fire issues. Sent it back to Ruger, and they fixed it at no charge. They overhauled the thing and told me that they were happy to restore an old family member.

Mine turned 30 this year, and still one of my favorites.

I love threads like this . My most inexpensive pistol suitable for "Field use" is my Ruger New model Blackhawk .357. I picked it up for a $280 & a few boxes of 5.56 in trade. I made the secure, thumb-break holster out of sturdy veg-tanned leather for a S&W 586 but this pistol rides in it more often on adventures - because it is rugged, accurate and bomb-proof & handles any .357 load I can cook up. It's a laser beam. And at $280 I'm not worried about traveling with it, etc. I added the pachymayr grip to make it more comfortable to shoot. Pictured with it is my old Camillus BK7, another great tool that I think cost me $60 more than 15 yrs ago. I have used that knife hard over the years on countless outings. I have some of the new model Ka-Bar Beckers too ... But this is an old stand-by and there is nothing wrong with it.

I also added a pic of my old stand-by buck 110 - which is a great back-up to the Becker for more detailed work. ...But a it's bit heavy for EDC My EDC for the past two years is the$25 BuCk 286. Hard to beat buck knives for USA quality at that price point. For EDC - I also add the $200 Keltec .380 (weighs like 13 oz loaded) for my normal around the house pocket carry; which becomes my BUG when I carry one of my other pistols. I if I am cycling or running when weight & size is a premium.

+1 on the GI canteens & cups ... My son uses the very same one I used as a Scout during his scouting activities!

I love gear that is quality yet inexpensive that stands up to decades of use.
