Favorite Coffee Mug and Traditional Knife

l5KAS5j.jpg

Enjoying my second cup of coffee this morning. That cup came from a local Greek festival many years ago (I go every year with my wife, and have a number of souvenirs; we really love the food at the festival). The cup is hand made in Greece, and has 24k gold. My usual Sunday cup. The knife is a Laguiole I have in my pocket at the moment (Honoré Durand). Good Sunday knife, with a shepherd's cross on the mark side.

Beautiful cup, Vince. :cool::thumbsup:

Now that you're familiar with Breton bowls, I can show mine :) A gift from Auntie when I was 6 or 7...

... and now a bit of self-satisfaction (a gift from Scotland) :rolleyes::D

I remember buying a bowl like that for my eldest daughter, when she was the same age Alain :) :thumbsup:

I hardly drink coffee but I have picked up green tea daily, usually in the morning. This is the only mug I use.

That's a cool mug, but I hope you don't mind me saying it definitely looks more like a coffee mug than a green tea mug ;) :D :thumbsup:

That has to be bespoke John! :D :cool: :thumbsup:

Well I was going to say, “How have I not seen this thread before?” But apparently I have seen it, because as I went through it just now, I noticed that I had already liked some of the posts. So I guess the question is, “How have I not posted in this thread before?” :rolleyes: :D

I did thoroughly enjoy going through the thread this morning, and had a few posts I wanted to comment on. Some are a year or two old, sorry about that! ;)

Morning coffee might be the best time of the day, especially when you have a new knife.

@meako , I’ll take a few of those Honey Jumbles!

That’s a really cool looking mug! :thumbsup:

Favorite mug and newest knife (acquired at the Rendezvous from Charlie, @waynorth).

There are several Original Pancake Houses around here (although I think I first ever ate at one in Texas). It’s my 4-year-old Eleanor’s favorite place to eat, but we haven’t been since January or February. :(

I have many coffee mugs that are witty or just well made but this is neither and it is my favorite. This mug has been with me on every backpacking or backcountry adventure for more than 20 years...I expect it will stay with me for 20 more :) It is the John Muir in me except this is a way better mug than the one he used :thumbsup:

I have one of those that I used to take backpacking, but I have to admit, I don’t like them much for coffee. The handle (on mine, at least) gets so hot you can’t hold the thing without gloves! :eek: :D

An old pic but thought it fit well in here.

Been there, done that! ;) :D

Since I haven’t yet posted in this thread before, I thought I’d pick out a few mug-and-knife posts I’ve shared elsewhere and share them here. My wife and I (sort of) collect mugs. There’s no rhyme or reason to what we buy, and we don’t actively go looking for them. We just happen to come across them, or sometimes they just turn up.

For what it’s worth, I like my coffee black (preferably French press), espresso on it’s own or as a cappuccino, and builder’s tea (brewed strong, splash of milk, one sugar).

This mug was a gift from my wife, which she got on a trip to Colorado.

Here it is filled with hot chocolate and mini marshmallows, because I’m an adult. :D

I got this very yellow mug on our first trip to visit my brother and his family in England. I bought it at a little farm-shop-restaurant we ate at just outside Bath.

This one came from a thrift shop in Flagstaff, AZ (for something like $0.25 or $0.50). I thought I had a picture of the mug itself somewhere, but apparently I just have this shot of the bottom. It has a yellow grid pattern on it, and I’m pretty sure it’s from the 70’s or 80’s. Under the Lambsfoot it’s marked “Grindley of Stoke, Staffordshire, England.”

I bought this several years ago from Laphroaig’s online shop (I think the shipping cost more than the mug :rolleyes:).

This one is special because it was my dad’s. He was a big Letterman fan. (Too much milk in this builder’s brew, and I dropped my HHB in it.) :D
